Long Evening
Hi all.
I'm off work today and trying not to drink. Ten pm is my tough time because that is when I usually get off work and go buy a six pack of tall beers, or an eight pack.... and then I drink until 2 am. Or should I say by 2 am I'm usually oblivious enough to go to sleep, to be honest.
Getting on here and reading about other peoples struggles and successes is helping.
It feels like being two different people, you know? The one who wants to be aware of the night passing and wake up feeling good and the one that keeps looking at the clock thinking go drive through the convienence store and you'll feel better, eff it. But I'm so sick of myself. I drank last night. I don't want to drink anymore.

Hmm....
why not change your patterns a little?
Don't sit in your "drinking" chair....or room.
Fix a non alcoholic drink in a cup...maybe something hot.
Go for a walk Take a shower or bubble bath
Watch TV instead of listening to music or visa versa.
Do laundry or clean up your place.
Anything for a distraction is good....
Yes You too can win over alcohol

I have had that argument with myself thousands of times. I lost most of them. So what is it going to hurt if you stay sober tonight? Take the ten bucks you saved and treat yourself to a good breakfast in the morning.

Good luck in your efforts to get sober, my thoughts and prayers are with you. You are giving encouragement to others in your efforts to get sober, reading the forums, as a newbie here only 24 hrs without codeine but think its true one step, one hr one day at a time.
Hugs.

I think you're right - no matter what the addiction, one day at a time is a good way to go..it holds true for many other things in life as well
Look forward to seeing you around some more
