My Hello to all of you!
irst and foremost, I'd like to introduce myself to the members of this forum.
My name is Scott. I'm from New Orleans, Louisiana and I am 21 years of age. I'm in fourth year at UNO majoring in Business Management and I have been an opiate addict since I was about 18. After I lost my home to Katrina and my dad to suicide a few months later, I turned to pills to numb my pain. After a short binge of benzos, I found opiates and then eventually, heroin.
Recently I decided enough was enough through the support of my girlfriend, mother, sister and SOBER friends. On 8/23/09, I started 10mg of suboxone.
And, wow... I feel so much better already. I'm also starting an I.O.P. this week which I am excited about. But, I have a few questions.
Before the opiates, before Katrina... I had history of depression and anxiety. I take 60mg of Cymbalta and was on and off klonopin also for a few years. I also take 3mg of Lunesta at night.
I was hoping some of you people on suboxone might be in same boat as me and have depression and anxiety problems. I hear that for the clinically depressed addict, a dose of wellbutrin with suboxone can help re-stabilize dopamine levels and in turn stable dopamine = stable serotonin/endorphins/norepinephrine etc etc etc
This thread is for anyone out there on suboxone that might be on other medication for insomnia/anxiety/depression. Share your thoughts on your current regime or an older regime that you think might have worked better.
I think this thread might help us find a few patterns in those being treated for addiction and other psychological disorders. Some of us might find that through the posts of others maybe the current SSRI/SNRI/benzodiapene/sleep aid we take with our suboxone might not be the right one for us.
and again... I look forward to posting in the future. Thank you for giving a NEW RECOVERING ADDICT A VOICE

Hi,
Welcome to SR!
I am a recovering alcoholic and for me the depression/anxiety came years and years before I began drinking. Drinking was a last-ditch effort at self-medicating. When I finally had my depression properly diagnosed and treated, I was able to stop drinking. Without treating the depression first, I don't believe I could have stopped drinking and began to recover.
I wish you well with your recovery.

Hi Scott and welcome to SR.
I have no experience with suboxone but there are many who will come along. I am an alcoholic and was very much addicted to opiates/benzos. I just wanted to welcome you to the boards. Keep posting and congratulations on wanting and getting sober.

Hopefully others will be along who can discuss suboxone with you.

Hi Scott!! Welcome to SR!! Congrats on your path to recovery. My suggestion would be to share with your doctor what you have shared with us in regards to the aftermath of Katrina, your stress, depression and anxiety. I had a lot of baggage when first getting sober and Prozac was prescribed. It helped me be a little more stable so I could focus better on myself and the road to recovery.
My best to you and hope to see you around a lot more!

I've take Suboxone and Cymbalta 120mg if I remember correctly. I went to an intensive outpatient rehab. I haven't taken Cymbalta in over a year or so and will never take it again. It caused some horrible weight gain which in turn made me even more depressed.
I've got almost 2.5 years under my belt. Going off the Cymbalta was much harder than Suboxone. I never want to go back there.

Hi Scott,
Welcome to SR. I was on suboxone along with cymbalta 60mg, and klonopin for anxiety. I felt great, and i loved the cymbalta until i noticed a significant weight gain, i had thought since i was feeling so great..i was just getting happy weight gain, until i decided to taper off cymbalta. I had lost most of the weight within 6 months. I think it worked nicely, the 3 meds combined, but the weight gain was too much for me, i started to feel worse. I am happy to say today i dont take any pills for any reason and am happier than i have been in years. come back, keep posting.
