First Sober Baseball Game
This was a big step forward for me today. I was supposed to see the Phils play the Mets on July 4. At the time I was scared to death of what I might do or what might happen if I went through with my plans. Luckily I had to work so breaking my plans didn't require much of an excuse.
I decided about two weeks ago that I was ready to give it a try and purchased tickets for tonights game against the Giants. What an awesome time. Even though the guys I went with got a little tipsy, getting wasted was the farthest thing from my mind. For the first time I really just took in the whole experience and enjoyed a baseball game in itself. What a great time! The icing on the cake was that they won against Lincecum. I don't think that if they lost it would have made all that much of a difference. It so good to be able to feel stronger than this addiction. Not only am I not a slave to it anymore, now I'm able to not let it prevent me from taking part in life again.

Way to go Meo! I'm glad Pedro shut down the Giants for you guys! He was awesome here in Boston. I love baseball!!
One of the first things I did when I got sober was start pitching again in amateur leagues around Boston. Broke my arm throwing an overhand curve to some peach-fuzzed chin college boy- loved every minute of it until then.
Now I just watch. Can't wait to meet you boys in October. Go Red Sox - Go Phillies!

You did great. We really have to watch times/events where we always drank. I went to the game on Tues. I missed last nights game and I'm sure it was a great game. I was not a beer drinker but I saw the price on them and just think of the money you saved. I got sober about 13 months ago. I made 100 days the day of the Phils parade. What a test that was. I was a cosmo or vodka drinker and sometimes I think if I was a beer drinker it would have been harder. Good luck meo and go Phils

thanks everyone for the replies. This morning I discovered another benefit of the sober ball game, no day-after-game hangover! Since I feel so good, I'm going to make my wife eggplant parm since I "ditched" her for the game last night.
dgillz - That's a tough one, should be a great game. I'll be missing quite a bit of PSU and Eagles football this year since I'm working weekends nowadays. I got a DVR box so I can watch when I get home, but I know its going to bug me knowing the game is on while I'm stuck in a freezer. Hopefully everyone at work knows how to keep their mouths shut about the score. Anyway, I'm sure you can get to a game later in the season, trust me, its not nearly as hard as I imagined it would be.
mikel60 - Pedro was great last night, the old goat still has something left in the tank it seems. A Sox / Phillies WS would be awesome. Whichever team would win would result in a lot of frustrated NY fans. Obviously I'm partial to Philly but until the end of October, Go Soxs!
Philly - I spent a grand total of $40 last night, including the ticket. Huge difference between the $100-$200 hundred that I would usually blow and that amount doesn't include the fairly regular trip to the strip club and/or copping blow after the game. Unfortunately, I missed the parade, my plans fell through at the last minute. I know that must have been a trial. But how great does it feel that you got to experience it and actually remember the whole affair and that addiction couldn't ruin it for you? Good stuff!
jamdls - I don't think there was a single kid in attendance last night that had as much fun as I did.

What a treat for your wife. One of my favorite dinners and I think I just might make the same this weekend. BTW congratulations on one of your many sober firsts. Life is so much sweeter isn't it? Glad your team won.
Nice thing about going sober, you're watching the game instead of listening to it in the bathroom
At the price of a beer, I've saved a lot of money these past ten years by not drinking at games.
GO Cardinals
