What are yours?

1) Jail really isn't that much fun...

2) Slower rate of accumulating scars on my body...

3) Much lower risk of killing people...

4) People like me..They really really like me!

5) Being sober all the time can actually be fun!

Hey EW, I'm happy to see another alkie from Phoenix here, hope you're enjoying today's extreme heat warning!

Let's see........

1. I'm not driving my kids around drunk today, endangering their lives as well as everyone else on the road. And I don't have to worry about DUI's.

2. Chances are pretty good that I won't **** off my fiancee today, or anyone else.

3. I won't lie to my partner, employer, friends, or family today.

4. I won't hate myself today.

5. There's a 99.9% percent chance that the AA meeting tonight will be awesome, and the weekend will be equally great. On second thought, it's pretty much guaranteed.

5. Disapointment

- No hangover, alcohol withdrawal, dt's ,etc
- minimized anxiety and other assorted psychological benefits
- less at risk for health problems
- time and energy previously spent revolving around alcohol now freed up to be spent on whatever activities and endeavours
- better communication with others and not just drunken rambling

1. My kids.

2. Not waking up on and off thru-out the night in a startle..full of anxiety...heart racing, pacing around.

3. Not laying awake for hours feeling like I am losing my mind, making promise after promise not to do it again....trying to peice together things that have happened and been said the night before.

4. Not wasting the following day by being good for nothing...health!

5. Not feeling full of self-disgust, regret and shame.

1. Because every time I drink I break out in handcuffs
2. Because every time I drink I have an uncontrollable urge to run sh1t over with my car, like Phone Booths (my record is 15 in one night) (direct correlation between #2 and #1 but am still trying to puzzle it out)
3. Because my Penicillin Bill and medicated Shampoo bill with those little combs is prohibitively high when I drink, and people look at me funny when I am clawing at my crotch all the time.
4. Because I ran out of excuses why I needed Penicillin and those little combs in my relationship, and there was direct correlation between those and my nose getting broken over and over
5. Because last time I drank I ended up turning yellow, like really yellow and started blacking out regularly before my first shot even hit the bar after downing it, if I am going to kill myself drinking I want to be able to remember it.

Wish I could have recorded some of the phone calls they got some mornings:

Honey I'm in Jail/Mexico/Florida/New Orleans/Houston/in Hurricane Andrew somewhere can you send money?

Lazy? Maybe, but I agree with all Mr. Dee said, but had to play with #5 a tad.

Top 5 reasons that I'm trying hard not to drink today:
(1) When my son told me, "Mom, I'm so proud of you."
(2) Getting my life back in order, ie, 'What I want' v/s 'What I do not and will not tolerate.'
(3) Love that natural high, Yes, it is there.
(4) Hated that selfish me. It is more about others and giving back today.
(5) More about focus and goals and what I need to complete. So tried of putting my dreams, (travel, saving, etc) on the back burner, just to escape, I will not hide behind alcohol!
Stay strong.
Thanks for this thread.
