The CDC and the federal government are releasing information about a possible explosion of the H1N1 virus this fall.

Among the recommendations are to have 2 weeks' supply of food, bottled water, and prescription medications in the event services are severely disrupted (people sick and unable to manage the water treatment facilities, go to work at the grocery, manage the pharmacy, etc).

If anyone is on a prescription which is vital or which is dangerous to stop cold turkey (some antidepressants are supposed to be tapered, not abruptly stopped), members might think about getting an emergency supply.

I never thought about making sure to have enough prescription drugs on hand but it makes perfect sense to me.

Would be a good idea but my insurance won't let me refill until 5 days before I run out.

This is very good information.
But, there are some prescriptions that are not allowed to be refilled until they are due to run out. I just was diagnosed with ADHD and prescribed the generic ritalin. They can not write or fill another prescription until the month's supply is just about done.

I wonder how the CDC expects people to deal with this?

Also, people on methadone have to go to the clinic each and every day! Sometimes from quite a distance. So, the CDC's recommendations don't hold much water for them at all. What happens to these poor people if they get the swine flu? Instant detox.
It'll feel like a double dose of flu! Just for trying to get clean, and getting sick.
And no; the clinic will not make any provisions for them. I've dealt with them enough through my son. They care only about getting their money. It's a "for profit" system.
Sad...

However, I do think this information should be spread about....
