Your drinking

I Know there are many differnt types of drinking problems and except that you dont have to be like myself to be an alcoholic. However a lot of post on the site i have read " i would have a bottle one night then maybe a few another night and so on" i guess what i am saying is can anybody relate to the type of hard drinking that i have done and share there recovery in terms of feelings, symptoms and when the felt that much better. I DONT think just because of the amount and time i drank i am different to anybody else but for obvious reasons people like myself may have a different kind of recovery.

My drinking started at the age of 15 and by 18 i would say i was drinking most nights ( at this age i would drink cider just to get drunk in pubs and people homes) by 19 i was consuming a minimum of 8/10 pints a night on a daily basis and this went on until 39 days ago. This does not include evenings out as if i were to visit a pub there would be no limits and if it was a special occassion it could go on for days (drinking anything).

Also as an example my brother bought me for my last birthday a large bottle of Jack D and in 1 night i drank the bottle dry.

I have had all the withdrwals symptoms and still suffer from bad anxiety, been to doc on 4 or 5 occassions (keeps saying down to amount i drank) slight headaches/ Pulsing headaches(slowing down), fears, worriess, aches and pains in arm, twitching (slowing down) and dizzy spells (slowing down) these i must admit have reduced i think due to something doctor gave me for my anxiety.

What was you first 5 weeks like if you drank daily like i did for over 10 years or more.

Thanks for your time

Robbo

I know others will be along soon to offer support and share with U.
I can only speak thur my experiences and tell U that I was not a everyday drinker. I was a binger, liked my beer (ale) and would sometimes drink 24/7 on 1, 2 or 3 nights in a row, then not drink for a few weeks and continue with another pattern of drinking 6-12 beers a day or 2 in a row.
Different people, different drink, same story.
Stay strong.

between 1.5 and 2 75cl bottles of wine... every night. Maybe not a lot for some of the people here, but enough to fry your brain on the long run...

What you drank and how often you drank it doesn't often give a uniform result between different people tho Robbo - we're all different.

I drank all day every day - I never had anything like 5 weeks wait before I felt 'good'....but that means nothing...and each one of my detoxes were different anyway LOL

I'm really going to give you this link on Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome - if I've given you this before, I'm sorry. Its worth a read anyway.

I know you're worried about this, mate.

Obviously noone here can diagnose you, but it might even be the worry is playing a part.

I think it might be worth your while to check things out with a therapist - if a doctor (or doctors) can find nothing physically wrong, it may very well be something thats anxiety based for example.

The only way you can find out for sure is consult someone who deals with anxiety a more specialised way than a GP.

If nothing comes out there, at least you can cross that off your list, right?

At the very least you might find some calming or relaxation exercises and techniques to help

Thanks for sharing your story, bro. I hear ya, about wanting to hear similar or comparative stories, and I will tell you, of the few AA meetings I've been to, thats the best part I've gotten out of them thusfar... but for my personal habits... here goes

For the past, hmm, 2 months... I would drink 5 NIGHTS per week... meaning on a particular night, I'd stop off at a bar for 4-5 beers, then hit the liquor store for 2 bottles of wine and polish those off and still make work by 9am. Then it evolved to... I would drink the two bottles of wine, make sure I hit the closest liquor store before it closed to grab a pint of vodka... nip on that all night, not sleep a wink... then hit the streets like a regular, everyday commuter, stop at the 7-11, get a coffee, paper and "Oh, can I also get a pint of JD?"... then nip on the JD all day at work when no one was looking... get home at usual time, 6pm or so, sleep til 10, then head out for more wine/vodka whatevs.... im heading into a 3 week rehab prog monday, combined with seeing a psychiatrist on the side, and hitting AA meetings... all in an effort to NOT DIE BY 40! I'm 34 right now, and if i keep this up, i will have a painful and very lonely death.

Hi Dee,

Thanks again and is a good read! just wanted to get an idea of of people who have drank in volume and time like me, as i have read and been told this can be the reason for certain people having lets say " A longer recovery" For example my brother had a problem for 18 months (always liked a drink until he lost control) drinking 24/7 ( in the end) had blood coming from everywere but apart from 2/3 days withdrawals nothing, not saying he may have had a bad day here and there. However he did go to a very expensive centre for his detox as he is a perfesional person at the time.

Thanks again.

I cannot WAIT for that day either. Been in close touch the past few days with good friends from over the years, that have been in the program and been sober 2-3-4 years! I keep thinking "WHAT?? Thats possible?? C'mon, bull-*******-****... I cant do that." But they have been up my ass supportive. My friend Greg is going to force me to my first one either Sunday/Monday or the one he hits regular in my area on Wednesday this coming week. I cant wait to go to one, cause if i dont have accountability of getting to one, I'll never ******* go. I told him that and he already figured that, so he's got my back in that respect, which I am grateful for....

and best of luck to you, Robbo78! I hope knocking a few meets out will help, we'll see what haps, bro. Wish you well, and a true healthy sobriety in the future! Keep at it!

But, dude... I've had withdrawals occuring where, I prob coulda been good just sweating it out at home, but alcohol withdrawal is the LAST ******* thing you want to leave to your own devices, as it is the most dangerous withdrawal out there... It's hard to OD on booze, but it is possible to die from withdrawal from alcohol. You're respiratory system gets so severely depressed, that while your body is trying to regulate, your blood pressure shoots through the roof, and from that, your heart could stop, you could have a stroke, a lot of **** can happen while your body is trying to process all the booze and readjust itself to a normal balance from all the **** the booze did to it. That's why I went to a detox facilility a few weeks ago, cause i knew what detoxing from heavy booze use can do, and the **** they told me, what could have happened to me if I didnt put myself under professional medical care. freaked the living frack out of me. So if you ever even have any question, about if or what detox is doing to you at the moment, go to the ER. Im serious.
