cravings and withdrawal symptoms

Alright, I been wondering if I should ask this or not all day. Now it's driving me crazy.

I got 5 days sober, withdrawals were calming down yesterday (it was a little bitty relapse compared to what I was drinking on the first time through it) and today, wow. It's twice as bad as three days ago. The only thing is I'm not sweating and catnapping, but all the, I guess sensory symptoms are present and range from annoying to downright painful.

The other time I sobered up, there was one day when I suspected the symptoms were worsening, although at the time I shrugged it off. One thing both days had in common comes to mind: they're the only two days I was craving alcohol. Last time it was a fleeting thought, today it was d- near an obsession. And the pain factor jumped up to match.

Is this related? Anybody ever have this happen to them? Or have I finally found the proof that I am in fact from another planet?

Every detox was different for me, bubba - and yeah many of them weren't exactly linear.

But - now you know what I'm gonna say - if you have any concerns at all - visit a doctor, ok?

you know all about waiting the cravings out and keeping busy and all that stuff - I hope things get better throughout the day

I will second what Dee said, see a doctor just to be on the safe side. 2 things to keep in mind about detoxing, the more one has the worse they get and non of them are exactly the same.

My 5th day out I was absolutely going insane and this was after a medical detox, I wanted a drink SO BAD!!!! Thank God I wanted NOT to drink just enough to get to a meeting.

l found the third day the worst.
Living hell.
After that it got a bit better each day.
The worst part was knowing that a few drinks would calm your nerves and you would feel "normal" again . (for a while)
Good luck.

I think you meant 'thinking' there penny, not 'knowing'.

I didn't know what 'normal' was for 15 years.
It's good to have that feeling back now.

Thanks y'all. I was just curious about other peoples' experiences, see if the mental cravings could somehow affect the physical symptoms is all.

Don't worry Dee, I'd be quick to go to the doctor/hospital if needed. I learned that alcohol detox can kill you from the paramedic who was shaking his head at me for being hardheaded.

Dee74,
l knew from experience that a few drinks would take the edge off and make me feel "normal" for a short while.
l also knew that the horrible symptoms would come back worse after a while.
But when felt so bad l didn't care.

All l wanted at that moment was instant relief.
Glad l have left that behind.
But still allways scared that it can happen again.

Now don't say you can't swear off drinking; it's easy. I've done it a thousand times.

:ghug3 Thirty,
Great advice here!
I have never been thur a detox, Thank God, but sure saw a few while working in a detox center. Yes, each and everyone is different. When U wake, see how U feel and go from there. U had 11 days before, then a tiny relapse, now day 5 after; my opinion, I think the worst is over.
Stay strong, that body just wants what it has been getting for all those years, that we fed it.

That would be very nice. Still not convinced, but I'm still a pressing on with it.

And today shows no letup, so I guess I'm in for the long haul.

Thanks for the link.

Dee/Penny - I gotta agree more with Penny on that one. Yeah, it's technically only 'thinking', but that thought comes from closer to the heart than the brain when it hurts just enough... And you know the price to pay but... just can't care.

Don't worry, I'm not there (yet). I'm made resilient (but not bulletproof).

Sorry Bubba, Penny
Perils of late night posting for me.

My point was the 'normal' we all sought when we looked for a drink is just a holding pattern...I know now it's not 'normal' at all, but I thought it was....

but yeah, it was a powerful impulse - it's why most of us are here

no harm no foul

Hi Thirty: Yep. I think this is proof your from another planet! Actually, I am having more problems coming back from a month "out there" than I did from several years of daily drinking. Now if that isn't bad news, I don't know what is! Doesn't make sense, and, as Dee says, it's not a linear path. So hang in there. You'll figure it out is you just keep on not drinking. And - of course - if you feel like you need medical attention on the planet you are currently residing on, make the calls. They'll find you!!

That's you and me both, AstroGirl. This here detox of mine is medically supervised, with prescribed pills, and the first 11 days--after years of heavy drinking--were much more, um, linear. I messed up for 2 hours and these last five days have been worse.

There's probably a lesson in there...

Red face

P.A.W.s.(post acute withdrawl symptoms) can last anywhere from 12-24 months. So be easy on yourself "Easy Does It" by not expecting to set the world on fire right away. Your doing Great. Congrats.
