Than drinking with one's friends. I am talking about alcoholics only here. Someone said that the other day.

Yes, drinking alone is one of the signs of an alcohol problem.

Is it a sure-fire way of diagnosing alcoholism? No, but taken together with some of the other typical signs, is a way to confirm that a problem exists.

AA prints a list of self-questions in determining whether a problem exists. You might want to check it out.

Drinking alone can also be a sign of severe depression

Not all the time

My A does not think he is an alcoholic-- as we all know, the only signs of an alcoholic is someone who drinks every night, by him/herself and hides bottles. He is just a SOCIAL drinker and never drinks alone-- of course, he is frequently gone for a day or 2, but at least others are there!!!!

(hope the sarcasm comes through)

Drinking alone is a sign of a drinking problem, I think that is one of the 20 questions they ask on that pamphlet.
