What is your recovery Anthem/Anthems???

I believe music is healing.

We all have a special song [or like me a few] that help us get through.

What are yours?

Overall - Bittersweet Symphony -Verve - lyrics explain it all - 'I can change'

When I'm sad - Everybody Hurts - REM - Reminds me I'm not alone.

When I'm happy - Shiny Happy People - REM - 'Shiny happy people holding hands' reminds me of all you beautiful people out there.

Look forward to hearing about yours and checking out the lyrics.

Love

Hello Dear Friend,
I sure like "Everyone hurts' too.
Have many, do not know if I like this one while happy or sad, but it sure is a favorite.

YouTube - Stuck In The Middle With You

Everyone, play the song, "Stuck in the middle with you and let me know what you think?
Another day sober!

YouTube - Bruce Springsteen - Better Days

Bruce Springsteen - Better Days

Well my soul checked out missing as I sat listening
To the hours and minutes tickin' away
Yeah just sittin' around waitin' for my life to begin
While it was all just slippin' away
I'm tired of waitin' for tomorrow to come
Or that train to come roarin' 'round the bend
I got a new suit of clothes a pretty red rose
And a woman I can call my friend

These are better days baby
Yeah there's better days shining through
These are better days baby
Better days with a girl like you

Well I took a pizz at fortune's sweet kiss
It's like eatin' caviar and dirt
It's a sad funny ending to find yourself pretending
A rich man in a poor man's shirt
Now my ass was draggin' when from a passin' gypsy wagon
Your heart like a diamond shone
Tonight I'm layin' in your arms carvin' lucky charms
Out of these heard luck bones

These are better days baby
These are better days it's true
These are better days
There's better days shining through

Now a life of leisure and a pirate's treasure
Don't make much for tragedy
But it's a sad man my friend who's livin' in his own skin
And can't stand the company
Every fool's got a reason to feelin' sorry for himself
And turning his heart to stone
Tonight this fool's halfway to heaven and just a mile outta hell
And I feel like I'm comin' home

These are better days baby
There's better days shining through
These are better days
Better days with a girl like you

These are better days baby
These are better days it's true
These are better days
Better days are shining through

Album: Lucky Town

a really important part of my recovery was forgiving myself. This song came out right about when I figured that out. I cried to it a lot

Linkin Park:What I've Done

In this farewell
There's no blood
There's no alibi
'Cause I've drawn regret
From the truth
Of a thousand lies

So let mercy come
And wash away...

What I've done
I'll face myself
To cross out what I've become
Erase myself
And let go of what I've done

Put to rest
What you thought of me
While I clean this slate
With the hands
Of uncertainty

So let mercy come
And wash away...

What I've done
I'll face myself
To cross out what I've become
Erase myself
And let go of what I've done

For what I've done

I'll start again
And whatever pain may come
Today this ends
I'm forgiving what I've done

I'll face myself
To cross out what I've become
Erase myself
And let go of what I've done
What I've done

Forgiving what I've done

YouTube - The Mountain Goats - This Year

The Mountain Goats - This Year

I broke free on a saturday morning.

I put the pedal to the floor.

headed north on mills avenue,

and listened to the engine roar.

my broken house behind me and good things ahead,

a girl named cathy wants a little of my time.

six cylinders underneath the hood crashing and kicking,

ahhh listen to the engine whine.

I am going to make it through this year if it kills me.

I am going to make it through this year if it kills me.

I played video games in a drunken haze

I was seventeen years young.

hurt my knuckles punching the machines

the taste of scotch rich on my tongue.

and then cathy showed up and we hung out.

trading swigs from the bottle all bitter and clean

locking eyes, holding hands,

twin high maintenance machines.

I am going to make it through this year if it kills me.

I am going to make it through this year if it kills me.

I drove home in the california dusk.

I could feel the alcohol inside of me hum.

picture the look on my stepfather's face,

ready for the bad things to come.

I downshifted as I pulled into the driveway.

the motor screaming out stuck in second gear.

the scene ends badly as you might imagine,

in a cavalcade of anger and fear.

there will be feasting and dancing in jerusalem next year.

I am going to make it through this year if it kills me.

I am going to make it through this year if it kills me.

I have a whole thread similar to yours with Music Videos and Lyrics. I mainly put it together so I could collect them all in one place. Check it out if you like.

Disturbed Down with the sickness - the theme tune to dawn of the dead (new one), great song, great film!

Can't say that i am into slow music as recovery songs but here is what i am listening to the most at the moment:

Spitfire - Prodigy
Charlie - Prodigy
Clubbed to Death - Rob D
Dragula (Rod Herman Remix) - Rob Zombie
Altern8 - Frequency

I wiped my Ipod this week to get rid of all the **** i used to listen to whilst drinking and feeling sorry for myself...so am building up a new list:-)

Can't help it, grew up in the 70's. Love most music, but favorites are 70 tunes, like rock, oldies, but love Country.
I grew up in the NE, born in N.J., married two Southern men. My beautiful 24 year old son, loves listening to music and we sing together in the car or truck, usually the oldies are our favorites. He always asks me about my teen years and early 20's. We are so close, I got this back, after becoming sober for those five years. He does not know of my relapse, but I will tell him in time, when I gain back more time. I have to always be honest here and with myself. Praying, music and reading helps....

My Black Dahlia by Hollywood Undead was good for me at the very beginning. I'm pretty sure the song was about a breakup and how pissed he was at his ex.. but a lot of it kinda made sense to me when I thought of it as talking/yelling about alcohol. I'm sure I could come up with something better now, but it worked then

I think I was still really angry about the whole thing and grieving a bit over the lost of my drunken days (wtf.. )

Lyrics:

I loved you, you made me, hate me.
You gave me, hate, see?.
It saved me and these tears are deadly.
You feel that?
I rip back, every time you tried to steal that.
You feel bad? you feel sad?
I'm sorry, hell no **** that!
It was my heart, it was my life, it was my start, it was your knife.
This strife it dies, this life and these lies.
And these lungs have sung this song for too long, and its true I hurt too, remember I loved you!

[Chorus - Tha Producer aka Da Seducer:]
I've , Lost it all, fell today, It's all the same
I'm sorry oh
I'm sorry no
I've , been abused, I feel so used, because of you
I'm sorry oh
I'm sorry no

[J-Dog aka The Flat Iron Chef:]
I wish I could have quit you.
I wish I never missed you,
And told you that I loved you, every time I ****** you.
The future that we both drew, and all the **** we've been through.
Obsessed with the thought of you, the pain just grew and grew!
How could you do this to me?
Look at what I made for you, it never was enough and the world is what I gave to you.
I used to be love struck; now I'm just ****** up.
Pull up my sleeves and see the pattern of my cuts!

[Chorus]

[Bridge - Tha Producer and Shady]
Seems like all we had is over now you left to rest.
And your tears are dried up now, you just lay without a sound.
Seems like all we had is over now, you left to rest.
And my fears are over now, I can leave with my head down.

Canon - Johann Pachelbel
and
Adagio for Strings Opus 11 - Samuel Barber

But i do like the others i have posted and i am not getting old!!!! lol

I listened to the rocky theme tune and went for a morning run over the river whilst the sun came up, pretty inspirational.
