Tooting Own Horn
Three weeks today of being sober I think I was ready this time, I'm totally into it.
I also quit smoking today. Oh dear....I do love cigs. When I tried to quit smoking before though, I was drinking, so it was IMPOSSIBLE not to smoke and drink for me. I could go all day without a cig, but as soon as I poured a drink....bam! went and bought cigs...
Wish me luck y'all. And thanks

Thank you for staying clean today. A 30 day coin appears to be in your near future!
Be safe, be well, and be careful. i hope this is not a case of doing too much too soon.
Are you working a 12 Step & 12 Tradition program of recovery to have come this far?

Hello Rider,
Just toot away. I have quit many, many times, but picked up many, many times after months without those evil, cancer, causing stinky things.
Now, with all the stress that I'm under, smoking about a pack a day now.
I wish you luck and continued soberity. Still sober today, one day, actually an hour at a time, today.
Actually, I do not feel well, last week hubby sick, now, today running temp, and ache all over....

sorry you are under the weather cactus. i hope it is nothing that will keep you down too long. thanks for the encouragement in all ways.
cigs....yeah, god i just love to smoke. but i started running again today and realized that i cannot breathe! a mile is tough for me when three miles used to be a breeze. so i am giving cigs the ole heave ho again. maybe it will stick this time. i just have to keep trying. it's a good time for me to quit cuz if i eat too much it's not an issue. i am a stringbean at the moment so a few pounds would not hurt in the least.

Rider 3 weeks is great, when I was seeing the doctor who put me into detox I had heard from his nurse that he was really big into getting folks to stop smoking, I asked him about that and he told me that quitting drinking was far more important for my health and sanity then quitting smoking, he suggested I hold off on quitting the smokes until I was solid in my sobriety, I quit smoking 1 year to the day after my last drink.
I am not saying that the doctors advice was right for every one, but I would suggest that if you are really REALLY considering a drink right now buying a pack of smokes would be better then buying alcohol.
Treat the smokes like you have the alcohol, I used the steps of AA to quit smoking and it has been over a year since my last drink. Hang tough, use the same method for not drinking to stay stopped on the smokes.
