brick and mortar
went to my first meeting with flesh and blood people today. Scary scary was asked to share but politely declined. I was wondering about peoples thoughts. Is it ok to just listen. I hope so because thats what I need right now.
Yes of course it is ok. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. Share when you are comfortable sharing.
I highly recommend you get a big book and start reading however.

Sure listening is okay...at least that's what I do from time to time. I know in my first few meetings I had plenty to say...but that just me. Needless to say I was on a first name basis very quickly with many of the AA members...over all not a bad thing IMO.

Definitely OK to just listen. I learned to listen for the similarities rather than the differences, and to keep my mind as open as possible. I'm glad to hear you made it to a meeting, good progress for being new to recovery!
It's your recovery, make of it what you will. If listening helps, then let it help.
i hope that you will share with others in a meeting because no one there can read minds (yet!). How can anyone truly help you if you keep all your problems to yourself? You may share something that someone needs to hear that will help them find the courage to be honest and to stay sober. i often just listen myself. Mostly to hear what efforts people are making to get through their day clean & sober, but also to have another person to pray for.
Please keep going back and go to as many meetings as possible!!
