my struggle with pain medication

I've had back problems since i was 21. im now 28. i've been on and off pain killers for years. i just had a baby 4 months ago which triggered my back pain to get worse. i started up on the pain medication again and got sucked in pretty fast. within a month i was taking 20 percocet or vicodin a day. i was addicted for about 5 years when i first got addicted. but i got myself off. this time i've only been on for a few months but with the amount i take the withdrawal is awful. im on my first day of trying to wean off tho i don't have enough to properly wean down. i have a few ultram too which seem to keep the withdrawal symptoms at bay, and valium to help with sleeplessness and restless legs. i'm just so depresssed, and feeling like i can't do it, but i know i have to for my daughters sake. any advice or encouragement?

Hi xlostxsoulx

Alcohol was my drug of choice but my advice for anyone is to see a Dr.
Unsupervised withdrawal is never good as the preferred option.

We also have a substance abuse forum that may be of interest to you as well
Substance Abuse - SoberRecovery : Alcoholism Drug Addiction Help and Information

and a recovery based pain management forum too.
Recovery and Pain Management - SoberRecovery : Alcoholism Drug Addiction Help and Information

Welcome to SR

Hi Lost Soul,

I feel for you, I'm a painkiller addict too.

There are many ways to get off them.

Personally I've tried cold turkey and subs and neither worked for me, that doesn't mean they won't work for you.

I came clean with my doctor who is very supportive and understanding and is helping me to wean myself off slowly and safely.

See a doctor, talk about it and find the best way for you.

Many here at SR have successfully quit and both you and I can too.

I am glad you have found us, here I get nothing but love and support, you will too.

Wishing you much love, support and understanding,

Remember, you CAN do this,

Faerie x
