New to site
Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the site. I've been taking opiate pain killers for close to 8 yrs. I've come to realize that I'm addicted. I can't get completely clean just yet, because I've got a serious back injury. I'm scheduled for surgery on August 13 I know I have a problem, because even when I'm not suffering from severe back pain, I still take the pain killers. After my surgery and they fix my injury, I want to get clean. I've tried so hard to stop taking my pain killers. I get severe withdrawal symptoms. I end up in the emergency room, lying that my back hurts, they take xrays and prescribe more pain killers. It's a vicious cycle and I want it to end! Recently, I bought a opiate withdrawal remedy online. I haven't taken my pain killers in 3 days and I'm suffering so badly! It's so hard not to reach for them and just ease the pain. Not from my injury, but of my withdrawal symptoms. I just need to talk to people with similar problems like my own. I'm sure some of you started taking pain killers, because of some sort of injury somewhere along the line. Anyway, I just wanted to brief you of my situation. Please help!

Rad like I said to you before, detoxing alone is so dangerous, please get to a doctor, you can't do this on your own. It can be done though, I am living proof of that.
Others will be around shortly to help give you some guidance. Hang in there, there is a solution like Nel just said.

hello radrex and welcome to sr.im a recovering alcoholic so im afraid i dont have any advice for you,but there are plenty of poeple here that will be willing to help you! ive had lots of support here on sr and have made some very good friends.i wish you well in your recovery.coming here is the first move.
Welcome Rad!
Congratulations on wanting to get clean. Unlike withdrawal from alcohol, Opioid withdrawal doesn't typically present any dangers. Many people have detoxed at home (me for one). I don't know how much you're using, but eight years is a substantial amount of time to be using. It's going to hurt (which you already know).
You may want to also post in the Substance Abuse forum while you detox. You'll get a lot of ES&H.
Although I quit at the end of May, I picked up shortly afterward and have been fighting my own battle to get off this stuff again (oxys is my DOC and, I'll warn you, the disease progresses! I detoxed off 110mg/day. After picking up again, in a week's time, I was up to 200+mg/day. Right now, I take 100-110mg at a time and feel absolutely nothing at that amount). Please keep posting. I'll be following your story. PM me anytime that you need a shoulder.

Thanks Christin, and everyone else that has replied to my post! My struggle is with percocets. I was taking anywhere from 10 to 15 - 5 mg tabs a day. Some days I may take more. I've been trying to cut back, but I'm not clean! I find myself needing to take at least 4 of them, before I can start my day. I have them stashed everywhere, in my locker at work, at home and in my car. I have a legitimate prescription for them, so it's not like I can get in trouble for having them. I don't need to turn to the street to buy them. I just know I'm using to much and I can't seem to quit. My detox was helping, but without them, the pain from my injury flairs up. I really want to keep in touch with all of you, after my surgery and into my clean up. I want my life back so bad!

FYI: My surgery is in 4 days! I will be hospitalized for a few days afterwards, so I won't be able to check my posts, I will be incapacitated for at least a week after too. As I recover from my surgery, I also plan to wean myself off the pain killers. I'll need all of your help... thanks in advance...
hi Radrex
I can't do better than advice you've already got here - pls consult your doctor. You need to work in consultation to have a viable plan for getting off the percs.
Hope your surgery goes well
