advice

Hello all,

Well its a long story but my brother now 48 has been a drug & alcoholic since
he was a young adult. He is currently in jail only for 10 days. It was his 3 dwui
in 6 months he was under the influence of drugs he blew a 0 for his BAC he prob would of walked out of police dept but when they pulled him over he was irate with the officers so he got a 10 day sentence or $500 bail but he is broke & we the family will not bail him out. He is almost at rock bottom he is about to lose everything finacially house, car good paying job etc...

I need some advice on how & what format to write a letter to a judge on
possibly keeping him longer or sentence him to mandatory drug rehab.
also temporally suspending his pistol permit for fear of a violent crime.

any advice would be very helpful!

3brothers 1 in trouble!

If you were in the state of Florida, family members can absolutely recommend this to a judge. I would find out when his hearing is and go and ask to speak to the judge about it......if possible. I would google information about your state.

Here is a link for you to check out, if you call them I bet they can give you numbers to call.

2-1-1 Call Center Search

Also, remember this, it doesn't matter what you do, your brother is the one that has to WANT to get better. I hope if you can get him into treatment he succeeds.

I'd call a lawyer because you don't want any unintended consequences... Tell him or her what your concerns are...

Good for you to let him face the 10 days... He needs the bottom to find him before it is too late.

Welcome to SR!!

Yes, definitely speak to a lawyer.

And, you and your family might benefit from NarAnon or AlAnon meetings, as a support system.

I'm in Australia 3brothers so I have no specific advice - but I think a lawyer is a good call.
I like the AlAnon and NarAnon ideas too

welcome to SR

This is the best advice possible. You can't fix his problems for him, and you need your own support.

I am so sorry for your troubles. It really makes me see how destructive my drinking and using was, and the pain and bewilderment it caused for my family.

Thanks for reaching out, and good luck.
