Joy

I am filling in divorce papers while my children watch Looney Toons behind me and eat Kraft Mac and Cheese. I am not a very good mother today - tv and junk food... oh well. I am sober. I am sober! I am SOBER!!! I feel joy! I cannot believe it I am going through hell and I am sober!

Thank you for being here SR friends.

I feel like shouting it out loud: "I am SOBER!"

Thanks for indulging me.

Way to be. Sobriety doesn't lead to a happy ever after life, nothing does but I'm guessing the real Hell you went through was the drinking. I'm finding that I still have issues, tough emotions, family problems, all the grist of life but I'm going through it sober and that does make the difference. Even if I screw up royally, I screw up sober. All my best to you, we're all in this together. I like that mac and cheese.

I know how you are feeling right now!

There was a song, I used a lot in my early years of recovery:

YouTube - John Denver - Some Days Are Diamonds (1982)

And the lyrics:

Some Days Are Diamonds
John Denver

When You asked how I've been here without you
I'd like to say I've been fine and I do.
But we both know the truth is hard to come by
And if I told the truth, that's not quite true

Some days are diamonds some days are stones
Sometimes the hard times won't leave me alone
Sometimes a cold wind blows a chill in my bones
Some days are diamonds some days are stones.

Now the face that I see in my mirror
More and more is a stranger to me
More and more I can see there's a danger
In becoming what I never thought I'd be

Some days are diamonds some days are stones
Sometimes the hard times won't leave me alone
Sometimes a cold wind blows a chill in my bones
Some days are diamonds some days are stones.

Some days are diamonds some days are stones
Sometimes the hard times won't leave me alone
Sometimes a cold wind blows a chill in my bones
Some days are diamonds some days are stones.

Thank you John Denver.

So much of it, for me related to my leaving my love ................. ALCOHOL ............. and the changes I was going through ......................... and what was happening to me, the good and the bad, and I too saw a stranger in the mirror, etc

Your post just made me think of this.

Love and hugs,

The weirdest stuff happens in life. Surreal. Looney Tunes. That will serve as a metaphor decades from now. I'm a believer in metaphors.

I am ecstatic at your sobriety throughout. I am also ecstatic that you are methodically taking care of business. Only your sobriety has given you the strength and wisdom to take such difficult actions.

There is no easy road ahead. You know it and I know it. Especially when we are " the addict." We are used to being at fault for everything.

But, you have found the strength and wisdom to decide what is healthy for you and what is not. I wish all of your family peace, including your husband. Knowing what you have said about him, I think he may be the most vulnerable.

Looney Tunes... Haven't seen themin decades. I hope you can find the humor in all that.

Thanks for sharing your joy with us all. You don't need to put a seven-course meal together to be a terrific mom - you are redefining what a terrific sober mom looks like.

(((mle)))

Thank you so much for sharing this.

How lucky your little ones are. They have a mother who's learned -- and is continuing to learn -- to love herself. What a wonderful gift to them.

Stay strong.

mle ask them youngins "Would you like Mac & Cheese or a nice yummy wladorf salad?" Now ask them if they would like to watch Looney Toons or the PBS station?

I know what thier answers will be!

You are doing what you need to do for you, your kids, & your sobriety! Good deal!

Cartoons and mac and cheese. I love that stuff!!
I am glad you are feeling joy and I know your kids are happy with their mac and cheese and looney tunes.
Sometimes thats all that matters. Is happiness. And most of the time it doesnt take much to be that way.
