Who is Bruce?
Who is Bruce?
Hi, I was wondering who Bruce is.
At my meetings when they ask if anyone has any burning desires, someone says "Don't Drink!" and everyone says "thanks Bruce".
Just wondering.....

Some meetings have added to that question a qualifier, "If you haven't had a chance to speak and have a burning desire...". That is because this guy Bruce talks & talks & talks...
Good question!

I have no idea who Bruce is, but you made me think of the Monty Python sketch from "Hollywood Bowl" where they are all Australian "professors" named Bruce. They are all drinking Foster's quite readily, and they have the excellent joke (said at a time when "American beer" meant Bud, Coors, or Miller):
"Why are American beers like making love in a canoe? Because they're f%$#ing close to water."
Looking forward to what you find out.

bannanagirl, Bruce was a member of the Cumming Group a number of years ago who died sober. When the chairperson asks for any AA related announcements on occasion someone will say "Don't Drink" as Bruce used to do. So, people thank him. If you look on the back wall, there are a number of pictures of folks who were members of the Cumming Group who died sober. I can't remember, but I think Bruce's picture is there.
To me, Bruce was and always will be my dear friend who passed away on Friday March 13th at the age of 35. He is the inspiration for my one and only tattoo, and his early death was and is a strong reminder to me of how important my sobriety really is.
thanks Bruce
