New to SR and Sobriety
Hi everyone, I;ve been reading your posts for a few days and I have to say I am so happy to have found a community of people that share in what I am going through.
Background on me .. 7 days sober. I used to drink every other day and a lot, atleast until I passed out. At social events I was always "the one" that had the most to drink, can hardly every control my drinking no matter how much I try. This has been an issue for about 15 years and finally for many different reasons but more importantly my family (hubby and sons) I am done. I finally want to be finished with drinking.
I am 7 days sober today, it isnt easy. I havent had any extreme withdrawl symptoms which was very very surprising to me. I am trying to figure this thing out.. I know its not easy - but as of right now I am super dedicated to it.
I havent been to an AA meeting yet - I went to one last year but at that time I just do not think I was "ready". I have enlisted in an outpatient program and will start that in August due to insurance and other reasons..but I am very much looking fwd to it and getting better.
I have two little guys that I dont want to be exposed to this nasty thing as i was growing up.
Looking forward to gettting to know you all better, and learing much much more as I go..
thanks -

Hi Caria, welcome to SR, congrats on your first week of sobriety, it sounds like you're in the right place.
I'm one of those people that use the AA program for my recovery but it's not for everyone and there are other ways to stay sober. Whatever you decide to do, I hope you put together a plan that works for you.
I destroyed my marriage and many other relationships through 27 years of daily drinking, but I can honestly say that the best relationship I have now is the one I share with my two children and my fiancee. A sober life is better than I ever dreamed it could be. My kids have attended AA meetings with me, I know they'll be pressured by their peers as they grow, so hopefully I've planted a seed about recovery and continue to lead them with a good example.
Look forward to hearing more from you.

Hi Caria, and welcome to SR
Thank you for sharing some of your story with us.
you have come to a great place
My daughter's PDoc recommended vitamin B1 to her for the withdrawals...you might want to consult with your doctor about that.
Keep coming back
