new here
Hello everyone,
I spent a great deal of time on the family/friends forum here a couple of years back, but this is my first time posting here. My husband died of alcoholism earlier this year and it has been extraordinarily difficult to work, parent, and grieve all at the same time. My ridiculous response to all of the stress has been to fall into a vat of wine myself...it amazes me how quickly you can progress from having a glass of wine to take the edge off while you make dinner at the end of the day, to having a bottle of wine, to sometimes having 2. I have realized that unless I do something I will follow in his footsteps. I went to my first AA meeting this morning and have made some grief counseling appointments for myself over the next few weeks. I look forward to learning from all of you.

I'm so sorry for your loss, but happy to hear that you're taking action and caring for yourself. I also hope that AA is helpful to you, it's saved my life many times, and given me a life that's much better than I dreamed of having.

Hi Icedtea,
I can totally relate to you. I have lived with an alcoholic husband my whole life. I am 49 and have been married 31 years. I did not start my drinking career until my early 40's. I so went past him. Once I started drinking I could drink more and longer than him. I also have an alcoholic sister who is sober for 11 years. She came to me for help when she reached bottom. My point is I never even thought about it happening to me. Never saw it coming and when it did I really enjoyed drinking too much. It is great you realized so early that a problem was developing. Good luck and keep posting.

Welcome back! Looking back at your past posts here it seems that this might not be your first try at sobriety. I hope you're trying something new and different this time! Sorry to hear about your husband.. that's awful.
Welcome.
