Hi. I am from Illinois and just signed up. I am struggling, YET I am four years clean. My clean date is 4/17/05. My problem has been dating men that drink even though I am a member of NA. I've been around the tables for ten years now and problems with men have taken me out before some years back. I became attached to a woman I used to use with and that is how I started meeting these male friends. They are very nice men - they just drink and smoke pot and I have no business being around them. The only thing we share in common is that we like to watch movies and go out to eat together. BUT I can do that with my NA friends. This is the reason I was looking for a forum like this on the internet so I could reach out to other recovering addicts like myself. Anyway, that is something I struggle with and I did go to 2 meetings today and talk about it and met with my sponsor over coffee this morning. I am currently on the sixth step.

Welcome Jc....you sound like a pretty smart lady....you said in your opening statements exactly what the problems were and I think you know in your heart and from your meetings what you need to do. If I have a real problem eating twinkies, I need to stay away from the twinkie fields..( If they exsisted),I know its not that black and white but it actually can be..Congrats on 4 years..thats awesome.....Stay strong....

Welcome to SR JC, Jaman pretty much covered what I am going to say.
You may want to consider backing off on dating for a bit and focus on your recovery more. Some how I have a feeling your sponsor may have had the same suggestion.
You say you are on step 6 right now:
You know it is possible that your "Picker" is broke right now and you need to work on being entirely ready to have God fix your "Picker".
I know plenty of men and women in the fellowship that simply accept that for the time being they just need to forget the dating scene for a while until they have their heads screwed on straight enough to where their "Picker" is doing better. Taking a break from the dating scene for a bit may be just the ticket for you, let your HP take over your "Picker", trust in you HP and the right guy will come along.
Some how I have a feeling that the guy your HP brings along won't smoke dope or drink! What do you think?
