An amazing thing happened today!

I was at work today and late this afternoon I was just sitting and reading on SR for awhile and my phone rang. I rarely get personal calls at work but something about the # that showed up rang a bell with me but I was rather suprised to hear the voice on the other end. The person on the phone was an old 'acquaintance', we met about 7-8 years ago and would get together occasionally and drink and do things that people often do when drunk. 2 years ago right after I nearly died and stopped drinking this man had called and invited me out for a night of drinking... I told him I was no longer drinking, I was going to AA at the time. He of course said something like well maybe we could get together for coffee...I never heard from him again and wasn't surprised. So back to today, he called to ask if I was still not drinking and I said of course, then he told me that he'd been sober for a couple of months and he was having different 'side effects' and dealing with stuff etc and he was asking ME if this sounded normal! and he wanted to know how I handled things ... Someone was actually asking ME for advice on staying sober!!!!! It made me feel so GREAT! and I still feel great 5 hours later. We talked for awhile and then he started apologizing for just coming out and asking me about sobriety and I said "you have nothing to apologize for I am PROUD of what I have accomplished" and then he went on about that I should be proud and I was an inspiration to him! I immediately emailed my daughter and told her. I also told my daughter that I never realized this man had a drinking problem because every time we got together I was drunk.... I don't think I've stopped smiling since I got that phone call. This is the best part of sobriety.

That's so true....the fact that one alcoholic can assist another
alcoholic more than anyone else ...................is simply astounding.

That is a great story and it shows that by just being sober we can affect others in ways we never imagine.

Great story! Thanks for sharing that. That is one of the greatest things I like about AA, passing on to others what was so freely given to me.

I've heard that "We can only keep what we have by giving it away..."

Good job.

Great story! I love these...and maybe, that phone call was no coincidence?

Thanks for sharing.
