I can do this. I can and will stay clean today. I am feeling good about my sobriety, the number of months in a row, but I am also fulfilled due to the actions of the present day. I can’t stay sober when I bask in the accomplishments of yesterday. I have to move forward every day as best I can.
The tools that I use today are not etched in stone. In other words I must go with the flow and like make the choices that seem to be the best right now. For example, going to a meeting, may not be the tool that I pick up right now. I may sense other action will serve me better in this moment. I need to be aware of what I am doing actively in my recovery right now, and I also need to be aware of what I am doing “in between” each action that I take today.
During the “in between” times, there remains a choice to find the tool that will serve my recovery and that will help me be of my highest service to the universe. If I am driving, I can practice practice choosing to drive in a way that allows other people to be at ease as we travel down the road together or meet at an intersection. During these times on the road, I can also venture into an active conversation with the spiritual world. I can repeat affirmations, or statements of kindness to the people and objects I’m passing, or I can simply follow my breath and let go of my attachments and judgments and breathe in the taste of air as if it is the most delightful meal I have ever enjoyed.
Today I believe in myself and in the “being” that surrounds me now…even as this presence extends into the far reaches of the universe.

Very true. I've started looking at other drivers as if they are other addicts/alcoholics who are in recovery. Me driving as I used to could very well upset them to the point of them having a crap day, and leading them off the wagon. I know that's not the case, but it works for me, and I know me getting where I'm going 4 minutes earlier isn't worth effecting someone else like that.

Now if I could just work on the "eh, the light's still yellow, I can make it" attitude, I'd be gold.

It's not about praying to HP and asking for It to be of service to me; it's about me concentrating on being of service to HP.

Now I almost feel like I could stomach an AA meeting!

Hi Ksplash. Let me give you another tool, one that has served me well. Carry your message to other alcoholics and help them to achieve sobriety.
