A Funny Story
I found this little story in "Uncle John's Bathroom Reader" and it's cute and I wanted to pass it on.
Keep It Simple, a bar in Edmonton was in danger of being closed in 2003 when officials found out it was not abiding by the city wide smoking ban. The only place smoking is legal is in liquor-licensed bars. But because Keep It Simple is a bar for recovering alcoholics--it doesn't serve alcohol. It does allow smoking, which helps many alcoholics not to drink. But because it didn't have a liquor license, it was illegal for people to smoke there. So in order to let it's non drinking customers to smoke, Keep It Simple applied for and received a liquor license, which it doesn't use, because it doesn't sell liquor.
Isn't it ironic?

That is too funny. But just goes to show you that the government sticking their nose in our business is not a good thing. It's a shame they had to get that just to allow addicts to smoke. The government should not even have any business knowing what is going on in there, especially since what they were doing was not harming any others. *sighs* But I am glad they were able to get around that stupid law.
WE have a really nice Recovery Club in the basement of our local substance abuse agency. There is no smoking anywhere in town, tho, since a too-strict anti smoking law was passed last year. Boo hiss.
