Question TOPIC: Where Were U After Midnight? Do U Believe Anything After 12am Is Trouble?

Hi Im Sharon and Im an Alcoholic
as of August 11, 1990. That's some
18 years ago with many one days
at a time collected to get me where
I am today.

Did anyone ever tell you that anything
after 12 midnight is nothing but trouble?

Usually things dont pick up at clubs
till after what? 9, 10, 11, Midnight?

Do you remember where u were recently
or yrs ago after midnight?

Were u driving around drinking, party-
ing. Were u at a club dancing, drinking,
drugging, getting into fights.

How about parking? Or rolling someones
house with toilet paper? Playing pranks
on others?

Let's see...for me way back when during
my drinking career, i use to close the bar
down.

I use to bring a purse with me like most
women, girls do. Sit at one table with
my purse right by my feet. Have a few
or more drinks, dance and end up sitting
on the other side of the dance floor
forgetting where i layed my purse.

Yep, that little incident cost me 2 stolen
purses.

After midnight after much to drink id
get in my car, head home and end up
racing the car next to me. We'd stop
and out the car i was not knowing who
the other person was......

That could have cost me my life if they
were wacko. Lots of things could have
cost me my life after midnight.

In fact it almost did that very night
in Feb 1990 when i ended up on the
side of the road after hitting a concrete
culvert sitting on top the ground.

That cost me 10 days in the hospital.
Or Aug 10,1990 when i came home
way after midnight to another arguement
and on a dare wanted to end my life.

A failed attempted and family intervention
i began my recovery in rehab on Aug. 11
1990.

So what's ur story?

AFter midnight I'm (hopefully) sleeping, if not, I'm on the computer. That's innocent enough. I never did my drinking in bars, always at home by myself. Now, if I'm up that late I'm either on the net or watching a movie.

in my using days anytime i was awake was a time when i was up to no good and seeking out trouble.

Most of the time at 12am I am at home watching sportscenter or on SR.com but some nights i am out with friends (am only 23 so most kids my age are still out late at night) and not using. I believe it is more a matter of the people you are with as opposed to the time of day/night you are out when it comes to looking for trouble.

there's a 24 hour coffee shop where i live, and a bunch of nutty kids from recovery that really like playing spades, uno, chess, ERS, etc. etc. so we hang out there and get our buzz on. i go to shows that last until 1 or 2. i eat at all night diners after the show. these are mostly fridays or saturdays, since i work 8-4:30 p.m monday thru friday.

nothing good happens after midnight? pshh... c'mon now, don't be a grampa!

After midnight is when the party was just starting, heck Eric Clapton wrote a song about it. Of course now a days he's probably singing something more like after 8 o'clock I'm gonna go soak my dentures

But for the last few years I usually preferred to drink at home but still occasionally hit the bars and clubs but was already pretty good and drunk when I made the decision to go. But even without drinking I tend to stay up till 1 or 2am and up between 7-8 in the morning.

I believe it is more a matter of the people you are with as opposed to the time of day/night you are out when it comes to looking for trouble.

I completely agree with this statement. I'm young and in college, so obviously late nights are expected, but if I surround myself with other people in the program or just people who I know won't be doing drugs or drinking, I'm all set to be out until whenever. However, there is an exception: if I, myself, am having a day where everything has gone to sh!t or i'm just struggling, it's probably best for me to be inside with either people I trust or on the phone with my sponsor or a close friend who'll allow me to hash out whatever is going on with them. Or, if I'm just being a grumpy jerk, then I'll just go to bed early or to the gym or something along those lines =]

I can get in trouble at 7 am just as much as 2 am.
Its all about what your intentions are.
I can go sit on the beach at 1 am to just think. Doesnt mean I am trying to find trouble.
I like taking walks late at night. Just because I like that time of day or night to walk. Who wants to go take a long relaxing walk in teh beaming hot sun?
Not me.
Its quieter and darker and just more peaceful to me at night.
I love nighttime.

Now a days i am an early bird. Really early
when i was working at the bakery. Up at
3am and sleep by 7.

Now that im not working i sleep till about
7ish.....if not earlier....and head off to
bed no later than 9....and thats really late
for me.

When i got sober and wasnt out on the
streets i learned to so appreciate my bed.

To snuggle down in the cool sheets or warm
blanket off my feet safe and sound from the
darkness of night.

Anyway......today im grateful to be where i
am today and not still cutting up on the streets.

Partying after midnight?? Maybe in the early days. My alcoholism had progressed way beyond that later in life. I had withdrawn and did most of my drinking alone. If I did end up in a bar for some strange reason I would prefer one with no distractions. No Music, No Dancing, No people, Nobody yelling "*****" or whatever drunk people yell when they've had too much.
Drinking was my Anti-Social Life, not my Social Life. I just wanted the world, family included, to leave me the hell alone.
