Language of Letting Go - March 28 - Balance

You are reading from the book The Language of Letting Go

Balance

Seek balance.

Balance emotions with reason.

Combine detachment with doing our part.

Balance giving with receiving.

Alternate work with play, business with personal activities.

Balance tending to our spiritual needs with tending to our other needs.

Juggle responsibilities to others with responsibilities to ourselves.

Balance caring about others with caring about ourselves.

Whenever possible, let's be good to others, but be good to ourselves too.

Some of us have to make up for lost time.

Today, I will strive for balance.

From The Language of Letting Go by Melody Beattie ©1990, Hazelden Foundation.

I can still struggle with this one at times, despite everything I've learnt in recovery

Sounds simple but for me it was something I needed to practice over and over...balance.

I tend to get wrapped up in my work, at the expense of my leisure. Or I can be so engrossed in enjoying my leisure, that I don't feel like working. I procrastinate because I am "stuck" and let things pile up.

Balance...I needed this reminder today.

I'm currently having trouble balancing work, school, and leisure. I'm in a new full-time job, and I'm taking class. Sometimes I do too much, and then I feel exhausted and burned out. Other times, I relax too much and get behind on my studies. I think I will get better at this as time goes on.

I struggle with this one too. I have been taking the last few months to figure out what balance is for me. I have spent time with friends and time alone, but one friend in particular who I used to spend most of my time with - I don't know, something feels like she feels like it's personal to her, and it brings up those "guilt" pangs. I know this is an old trigger, and I need to let the discomfort of doing things the right way for me to settle out. The more time I am in my own space, the better it's getting, but it is an adjustment figuring out what balance is for me! Good reminder to keep working on it - thanks!
