Is this pertaining to your sober time or is it a dietary thing?
Brats give me indigestion.

Hey Bard,

In the sense of breaking a sobriety commandment if you do?

No idea. I saw people posting that they donīt even use vinegar.

The premise: do you think it is ok or not?

I have never seen a brat battered with anything. I have seen them boiled in beer.

If you are talking about eating foods prepared with alcohol, there is a good thread on this subject here:

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...e-alcohol.html

Hope this helps.

An sorta related experience of mine:

I only use this brand of deodorant, works very well for me. And it has alcohol
(or alcohol-based, now idea, not deep on that knowledge)

A week ago or so i was putting it on and i was not paying much attention so
i sorta moved the spray to my neck and a bit into my mouth. And i could actually
taste the alcohol - i instantly said to myself "f*ck me - vodka 7!".
The taste went away but it was a mind f*ck - crazy!

So i guess i relapsed

My rule of thumb is when I get drunk from eating something like a beer batter (or want to get drunk) I'll revise my opinion.

I haven't had to yet, but that's me

I personally don't stress about alcohol used in cooking. I know that it doesn't cook off, I did read that thread, and I did have an incident recently where it was the taste that freaked me out. Didn't mean I was going to order 5 more tiramisus or plates of chicken marsala (thx warren..) to catch a buzz, and it certainly didn't make me want a drink.

Other people feel totally different and want to live completely alcohol free, and I totally support respect and understand that. I think it would just drive me too crazy paying attention to it.

At this point, my body doesn't crave a drink or alcohol. However, I wouldn't touch a 'near beer', it would psych me out too bad and remind me of "drinking", cuz well.. ya drink it, and theres way less alcohol in that versus most foods cooked with wine/liquors. It's much more of a psychological thing for me, also a reason I don't drink "mocktails" or anything that reminds me of my past drinking habits.

I'd say if you're checking here.. you might feel weird if you eat it.. then what? I say go for it, but if you're worried, opt for a burger

Heres my take on it...

Its about attitude for me......ok sure i must have eaten or drank loads of stuff with "bits" of alcohol in it......but unknowingly..

If i knowingly eat food with some element of alcohol in it...then im making a decision to....shrug my shoulders and eat it anyway..

Im turning a cheek because its only a "bit"..

I have a fear...warranted or not...that.....that attidude will turn into...

"It only one glass of wine"...wheres the harm"....its not like im drinking it to get drunk..."

I have to be like that.......its so easy for me to start believeing my own bs.

Everyone has there own "system" i guess and thats mine.

thanks Trucker - I was thinking I should have made it more clear in my post that it's my personal decision only.

Even tho I don't share it, I respect the opinion of those who consider this whole business a slippery slope kinda deal

What's a brat?

Beer batter wouldn't bother me, I would probably avoid something like tiramisu cos it tastes so much of the alcohol but beer batter doesn't even taste of beer and the alcohol content would be extremely minimal to the point of nearly none-existant.

So personally, I would eat it. Depending on what a brat is.

With me, it was always the beer that I drank to wash down the brat that got me drunk.

Oh, gosh, Bard, just eat the tasty things!

Brats brats brats (sounds like: hots hots hots)!!! My neighbor boils them on the stove in beer and onions and then puts them on the grill....YUM!!! I'm sure the alcolol cooks out. I've never gotten drunk or felt like I was cheating when I eat them. Yet they sure are delicious! By the way, [I]not[I] a stupid question.
