I did it!!!

Well I was wondering how I would react to a "party" situation, in my sobriety.

This Sunday was again invited to my best friends house for a BBQ. I had turned it down a week prior, but this time I had to go. (just to satisfy myself)

Got there and everyone is drinking beer, OK I was OK with it. (my problem was with hard alcohol)
then he broke out the liquor and started to make drinks. I was OK for the first min or two. But they kept discussing what drink to make and didn't like the first batch, so they kept trying.
I almost screamed out loud " WHY THE HELL DOES IT TAKE SO LONG TO MAKE A DRINK"
I thought over and over I can have one drink.
Then I thought how long that one drink would last.

ANYWAYS I didn't drink and I beat that situation.

One time one of the people said have a drink and celebrate, I asked him what to celebrate and he said daylight savings time.
Kinda reminded me of me. celebrating everything.

NOT ANY MORE..
I can go to functions where alcohol is and not drink.
I'm only 39 days sober and this is one of the biggest accomplishments yet!

P.S drunk people are so annoying, I can't stand them.

Great story hardwired, thanks for sharing. Congratulations on exercising your resolve to stay sober and pulling through with your sobriety still intact. And yes, drunk people are annoying. What a great reminder that is for all of us to stay on track. Especially for us newbies.

Hey great job!!

Yeah my first few times out were hard too, but it felt so good to make it through!

I met a man last weekend (who I found out later had been in AA for years before) and was at the bar VERY DRUNK, and when he asked if I wanted a drink, I said "no I don't drink" he said "at ALL?!!!" and I said "No I'm allergic to alcohol" and he said "My life would be much better if I was allergic to alcohol". I felt like telling him, maybe he is. I just felt bad for him. Even his spouse didn't want to be around him at the bar.

Great achievment.

Bank those thoughts for the next time as well.

First time is the worst, few months you'll probably be able to get through something like that no problem at all.

Never feel envious of folks that are drinking, we're missing nothing.

Good job! I'm glad things went so well for you. Don't let down your guard next time because it went well this time. I can imagine myself saying to myself, "Well, it went so well last time, I could probably have just one drink and still be okay." It would be just my style to do that.

Great job!!!!! I failed in a similar scenario about a month and a half back. I still don't trust myself enough to be at such a gathering. Kudos to you for going, having a good time, and staying sober!

I agree, drunk people are quite annoying.

GOOD FOR YOU! I'm really happy to hear that you did this. I have wondered how the hell I would ever attend parties as a "boring" sober person, but I have the recollection of my 9 months of pregnancy, when I actually had a pass not to drink. Interestingly, I had a good time sober and even attended parties where it was pretty damn clear I couldn't drink. I guess my problem arises when there is the option to drink. You showed a huge amount of self control and got through it -- not an easy task, as I'm sure all the people on this forum would agree. Keep it up!

Way to go!!!

I work at a restaurant that stays open late at night. I get a little tired of dealing with the "drunk and disorderly" myself, but I always wonder if any of them may someday be someone posting here.

Hugs and prayers!

HwF, good news!

now, i can relate...

was about a month into recovery, and went to a wedding of restaurant people (oy'e!)

made it through, and went to a meeting and shared about it...

after the meeting, some old timer came up to me and said... "Sonny!, it aint this one you have to ne concerned about!"

"its the next, then the next, then the next"

i was PO'd!

now, i see what he meant... we have to never let our guard down, as alcoholism is one Mofo of a trickster!

then we can go to any drinking and party occasion without a problem!

HwF, i guess i'm that old timer to you today...

I was never annoying when I was drunk!

I was obnoxious, offensive, abusive and dangerous to be around.

Of course that was towards the end, before that I suppose I might have just been a bit annoying.
