Starting off

Hi all.

Been drinking too much for too long now. I love to drink but hate it as well.

I cant just have one beer. I feel like crap and i want to stop.

What is the better way to go? I know there is an AA meeting on tonight. Or am i better off going to see a doctor to get help.

I am an alcoholic. I want to be a non drinker.

Thanks for listening.

Welcome Shorty! Starting off with a meeting might be a good idea. Talking with your doctor about wanting to quit drinking is a good idea too. I'm glad you found us. This is a very supportive and understanding family and I'm glad you joined us.

Use all the support systems you can to get sober. Medically supervised detox, AA meetings, this site, trusted friends and family. There are other recovery programs too. They are listed on one of the forums here. Maybe someone else knows which forum and can post a link.

I would just say use all the support you can get, and take it one day at a time. Just don't drink for today.

There is a sticky in the alcoholism forum titled Quitting, what to expect, what we did. Lots of useful experiences so you'll know what can happen during detox.

Again, welcome!

A visit to the doctor is always a good idea....

SOME people need medical intervention to help with the withdrawals..

aa is also a great fellowship and for ME is vital to my contented sobriety.

If not aa there are a good number of other support programs/groups.

Dip your toe in the water and see what suits you.

Coming here for help and admitting you cant stop when you start is the first step...

And its a big step.........i admire you courage.

Keep posting your progress and welcome to this wonderful site

You can do this, Shorty!,,,, with help and support!

AA, your doc, a shrink, SR...etc.... It's all good! Do whatever YOU have to and surround yourself with supportive understanding people who relate to what you're goin' through!

Hang in there! It WILL get better! Glad you're here! lmao

Welcome Shorty - good to see that you have taken some positive steps. I can relate to your love/hate relationship with shrink. I guess the motivaion for recovery comes when the hate is greater than the love! All I know is that i "hated" feeling hungover on a daily basis,

Good luck - you'll get all the support you need here

Definitely get to an AA meeting if you can. Everyone in that room has been where you are. You don't have to do this on your own. Welcome to SR.

Hi Shorty,
Welcome to a great site. AA is a great idea. It was for me anyway. Whatever move you make, you're headed in the right direction. Best wishes, and I hope to hear more from you.

Welcome to SR. Please keep coming back for support and guidance. Early sobriety is a real bitch sometimes with all the feelings and brain cleaning going on. Stick to it though, it's worth the journey.

Peace.

Going ok.
spent the day at work, so that helped keep my mind off things. But have had a headache all day. Not been hungry either. Is that normal?

Hey Shorty and HI!

Yeah! Normal to not feel like eating much. Anything you can put down ya right now is good like broth, crackers, toast, tea, lots of h2o.....

It'll change and your appetite will become better. Vits B and multi's are hugely recommended.

Glad to hear your hangin in there! Don't give up, K? ! We need you as much as you need us! :ghug3

Little update for me.
First week down. 7 days in. Going well. Thought about having beers... but resisted.
Spent the weekend with my long term girlfriend that lives 500km away. That was great.
Have lost 4kg as well. Feeling good.
