wow - good thread.
mm, how to explain my nick
many, many years ago a client said to me "you are a spirited woman". we talked a little bit about what that meant for them to describe me in that way. despite his explanations or descriptioins of me i couldnt see it, but i adopted the same and shortened it to spirit.
10 years down the track, even thougjh i have thought of changing it, i cant, it just feels like me.
so my nick is spirit, sometimes spirit60 - and that is part of the reason i am that nik - there is some other 'spooky' links to why i use this name, but for now, let it be known, i am a sprirted woman, known as spirit

Interesting thread Sharon.
My user name hasn't much depth.
"masseyman"- I garnered this seldom used nickname from having a collection of antique Massey Ferguson snowmobiles, from a few of my friends years back....really nothing to do with my sobriety, but makes me recognizable I suppose. Bet no one else has 25 old junky snowmobiles littering their barns....
Peace.

my name bballdad comes from my daughter
when she was in school, she played a lot of basketball and fast pitch softball.
It seems like for years I was watching games, practice or outside playing ball of some kind with her.She is in college now in nursing and rarely plays ball.We both have a lot of good memories from those young years.I walk into her old bedroom now and see all kinds of trophies she earned still there.Great sober memories for me and her.
good topic Sharon,thanks

Heh. Well, I signed up while blind drunk, and picked an easy-to-remember name so I'd be able to at least guess it the next day. At the time I worked at a store called Tellus Mater (roughly, "mother earth"). Hence, Tellus.
Been thinking about changing it, actually.

Thanks guys.....
When i log in to SR I quickly glance
over the names I see. There are names
that remind me maybe of a relative
with the same last name or my belly
button birthday which is December 15.
Or maybe Astro for the Astro's Baseball
team. And many more.
Most of all when i see regulars often, then
I smile and dont feel alone.
It's amazing that u could live miles
and miles away and yet u r right here
in my lap on my computer.
Whatcha doing there...lol

What a great thread. Just gets us off topic a little bit to think about other things and get to know our fellow SR folks. My name of course means that I love me now caused if ya drink so much ya just need to love yourself a little more and stop the nonsense. Feeling better now.

When i first came on here, back in August I think, i was 'sadmummy' because I was so unhappy - after staying sober for a while I decided that I should no longer be sad but 'cool'!! Ok, I relapsed but I am back now, 22 days in and still 'cool' !!

In ny nahe the cdn stands for Canadian because just fubar was already taken at the poker site I play at.
I have been called Fubar since I was 16.
If you don't know what it means just google fubar since I don't want to be scoldrd for using profane language here.
OK the ubar stands for Up Beyond All Repair so the F should be clear.
I have kept the name but changed it since I got sober to Fixed Up Beyond All Repair.

My name pretty much says it all. That was how I felt when I signed up almost a week ago. I didn't put too much thought into it. I wanted to hurry and sign up and start getting some support because I felt alone. Thanks everybody.
I too get caught up in self some days.
My aches and pains and sad lonely me.
When I should be grateful and happy
where I am.
With haven gone to so many meetings,
which im glad for, I can play those tapes
that remind me that in order to get out
of the poor me's is to go help someone
in recovery.
That way it can take the focus off my
little problems and place it on someone
elses.
Sure enough when i do that, then
time flies and im feeling better.
Butterflies are beautiful. I have
about 4 of them in tattoos. I will
add different ones as fill ins to my
already larger tats.
Very feminine, dainty and delicate.

Mine is from the verse in the book of Matthew that says, "That which you do unto the least of these, my brethren, you do unto me." It reminds me to be humble, as I too am 'the least of these', and it reminds me to love 'the least of these' like I'd want to be loved.

Heh heh. Or the dog on the Jetson's cartoons? Not exactly.......
I'm an amateur astronomer, I have a small collection of telescopes and a love of stargazing. My passion is deep-sky observing, hunting down and admiring galaxies, nebula, star clusters, etc. Yep, alcoholism can even strike a geek
So Astro is the name I use on SR and the paintball forum that I also frequent. Interestingly, on the astronomy forum I use I go by the name ArizonaScott. Now that doesn't make sense at all, does it?

Sharon,
Always good to see you here and thanks for this cool thread!
I lurked here for a while and when I decided to join. I was afraid to admit to myself much less the whole world that I was an alcoholic. So when I decided to join SR, I wanted something that was gender neutral, easy to remember, and something I could find a picture of for the avatar. Okay, maybe I put too much thought into something that should be simple.
I also enjoy trivia about random subjects. I live on the coast and love to study the coastal and migratory birds.
Did you know that pelicans appear to weigh over 10 pounds, but actually only weigh between 7 - 9 pounds?
Did you know that pelicans close their eyes as they dive into the water to catch a fish and pop up facing the opposite direction they entered the water?
Did you know that most pelicans die of starvation? They go blind and can not see to fish.
Somedays I feel like I'm all hollow bones.
Somedays I feel like I'm diving in with my eyes closed and popping up in the opposite direction.
Nowadays, I'm committed to living my life without blinders (denial). I want to live a fulfilling life.

How fun is this!!!!?
My name is Nicki (no duh) and my dad nicknamed me "Sunshine Girl" and/or just "Sunshine" when I was a youngster....
When I came on SR to sign up, Sunshine was already taken so I thought the next best thing to be Nickishine
