Health Insurance Portablility and Accountability Act HIPPA

Afraid everyone will find out about seeing the doc about alcoholism? check out the HIPPA laws and see where you stand. Your health record is private information and not as easily obtainable by people like you may think. I did not see my doc about alcoholism because I thought that since my insurance was under my husbands name, he would get fired. Not the case folks. Not only does Doctor patient privledge apply, but so does HIPPA. Check out this link. There are many like it.Hipaa Rights - RightHealth
You have rights. Research HIPPA. Hope this helps.

I posted awhile back that I had recently seen my doctor and after I came out and told her about the alcoholism I asked her if this would be disclosed to the insurance company. Her comment was, "No way! This is for my notes only and besides you're living healthy now." I didn't know the legalities of it though. Thanks for the info.

Thanks Horselover,
I think too many people think their kids are going to be taken away because they want help with this! Anyone have any experience with this??
