Question TOPIC: An What Do/Did You Want To Be When You Grow/Grew Up?

Hi Im Sharon and Im an alcoholic.

By the Grace of my HP and people
like you here in SR I havent found
it necessary to pick up a drink of
alcohol since 8-11-90.

For that and you I am truely grateful.

What do I want to be when I grow
up? Hmmmmm.....

When I grow up I want to be married
for the second time, be a member
of Alcoholics Anonymous and love
to ride motorcycles and get tattoos.

I had no idea when I was young
that this is exactly what happened
to me.

Back when all I could do was
wish to be an at home mom
just so i wouldnt have to
work anymore and drink.

That part was a wish i had and
it did come true.

Little did i know that my life
would go thru so many changes.
Like a metomorphosis of a butterfly.
(is that right?) Anyway....my
drinking carrer took a turn for the
worst while raising my little family.
It had a huge impact on my
marriage as well.

With all I went thru, Im happy
to say Im glad to have grown
up the way I have. I love me
and my life of recovery. I
also love the gift of a new
relationship and marriage to
a wonderful man. Life is grand.

So what do/did you want to be
when you grow/grew up?

Thanks for letting me share.

I wanted to be a recording engineer, then I changed my mind and wanted to be a forest ranger.

Then I discovered alcohol and my dreams changed, I wanted a job that fed my addiction. Being a bartender did the trick for a year, but naturally I was fired for drinking on the job. So I became a plumber, we drank on the job and managed to get a day's work done anyway.

Eventually I got tired of plumbing and went into the plumbing supply business. First I was a delivery driver, then I sold pipe and fittings, for the last 13 years I've worked for a luxury plumbing fixture showroom. It pays the bills and it's a secure job.

When I grow up I want to be a good husband, a great father, and a trusted friend. Nothing more. It's good to know that that dream is coming true thanks to my programs of recovery.

I don't ever want to grow up, I will always be a child at heart...and as long as there is hair dye, I will look like one too!!!!
...really, I wanted to be a Chef, I went to college for it and cooked for 18 years. Had to change profession to spend more time with my Son, I love him more that I love cooking. I am lucky though, it is something I can do at home.

Honestly my dream was always to be a Mom and have a loving Family. Sound silly but it's what I always wanted more than anything.

Career wise? Writer or Psychologist. Good thing is I'm young enough where I can still pursue my career goals if I choose =)

i wanted to be an architect or go to art school, but my parents never let me and made me do all sorts of honors and s-m-r-t classes, so i always had to live up to their expectations, never thought i was good enough, etc. eventually, that drove me crazy, and then, i discovered alcohol.
dropped out of school, etc. luckily, i didnt get fired from my job, which is sweet, and hopefully i will be going back to school in the fall for computer science. i hope to sit on my a$$ and write computer programming. yay!

I wanted to be a research chemist when i started college before really finding alcohol. In my pursuit of quick money i have been in computer programming and now a global online marketing manager, how gay a title is that? (non homophobic quip). I guess i will be starting my own business at some point, i can't see me doing global online marketing for long sober lol!!! BTW my natural progression would be VP of marketing, thats always makes me up VP lol We have 10 VP's in the company...jeez!

I wanted to be an actress or model in my teens. Then wanted to be a Psychologist, until needing 'lots of therapy! Now I'm a LCMT (lic, cert, massage therapist). Can't do massages when you smell like alcohol and can't stand up! I checked my voice msgs on my cell today (business line) and I missed out on 9 massages due to this relapse! $$$ out the window. I'm pissed at this disease and what it robs us of! Tomorrow is a brand new day and a new start!.... Better start calling these clients back too!

Me Too! Were you chasing around a bear with a picnic basket, by chance? No seriously, I wanted to run a state or national park. I worked outside up until I was almost 20 and never could picture myself sitting behind a desk...which is exactly where I ended up.

I wanted to be a musician, an actress, marine biologist, research chemist, veterinarian. But I can't even get through school right now. So, right now, I hope to grow up (period, I need to grow up) and to grow up into a healthy, sober/clean/nonaddicted-to-anything person.

(Why grow up?)

Naval Aviator was on the list for a while, (this was long before "An Officer And A Gentleman"). At one point there was some talk about sending me to the Seminary. It seems Writer has always been there in one form or another.

I think my true calling though is Mad Scientist. You know, big castle, moat, swamp... helpful Igors and research assistants... lightening and equipment... privacy and freedom... unfettered knowledge to help others... unlocking mysteries... producing new and amazing things for the benefit of all...

Its very satisfying work. About the only downside is that every once in a while the villagers get really angry and storm the castle with torches and pitchforks looking for your blood.

I always wanted to be a fire fighter. Had a helmet when I was little and used a French's Mustard bottle as a "hose" all over my grandma's hallway in her awesome log home. Seems to come up every family gathering somehow...
Ended up as a cop for 6 years. Was still jealous of the firemen.
When I grow up I want to be a sober, kind, caring, and responsible husband. I want to be a dad. I want to meet all kinds of people, and leave them better than I found them.

Always wanted to be a radio announcer.

Started my college in radio. I later changed my major to education. I was working with the EMH kids student teaching. Was working full time at that period and going to school. I crashed and burned. Kept working thought, I'd save some money and finish my degree. Met my ex, had kids and still haven't finished my B.S. in eductaion.

Been working in quality control where I work for the past 18 years.

When, I grow up!!!!

I just want to be happy

When i was a kid.......at one point we lived near to a motorway bridge.

I would go down to this bridge and look down at all the traffic..

I would wait for the trucks...when i saw one coming id wave

As these trucks rushed under me feet they would blast there air horns and there would be a huge rush of dust and air......fanstatic

I can remmeber that as clear as day............

That rush of excitment stuck with me........

Now when i go under a bridge on the motorway and see somekids above..

I give a long long blast.........they still love it and i just might make a kiddies day.

Took me along time to get to do what i really wanted to do....rather than what i thought everyone else wanted me to do...

trucker.........

I recall after a beating I got
from my mom and sitting on
stool against the wall, I
spotted a Catholic Life Mag.
laying on the table nearby.

I sat there with tears streaming
from my eyes wishing so badly
that I had been born a guy
and wanting to be a priest.

After all the physical abuses
i got i prayed asking God
Why was i the one being
hurt? I would look in the
mirror wanting to end my
life several times to only
believe it wasnt what
God wanted me to do.

Why a Guy and a Priest?
Well only guys could become
priest and little boys could
be altarboys. They had the
ticket to work closer to God
right there on the Altar.

I wanted to be that closer
to God.

Today I am as close to God
as He wants me to be. I am
at service to Him by doing
His Will. By helping others
in recovery. Sharing my own
ESH with them.
