hey group!
hey group!
i am really down today? feel like drinking? i am going to AA, in IOP, but am struggling so hard to like myself? not from my past, but i do not like me sober? weird huh?
any help you can give me?
any help you can give me?
Maybe you don't have enough time sober to know your sober self.
think how bad you will feel if you drink, it will be no fun.
Just make it through today without a drink!!
you can do it, I will do it with you.

Hi,
I'm glad you posted.
You are still in early recovery and I think it's important to try to remain patient with yourself and your progess. It takes time to be able to change things in yourself and your life and really, it's an ongoing, lifelong process.
Try writing a Gratitude Journal and focus on the positive aspects about yourself. And, keep posting. We are here for you, and we do understand.

Hey Jow, I know how you feel. I'm not used to my new skin either. Don't forget that we have the choice to drink or not to drink. Please chose not to today and tell us why you feel down, maybe we can help?
Being sober allows you to see the real you free from a mind cluttered with alcohol. You may find it hard to sort out who that is. Making changes in your life like this one take a lot of work and soul searching. Most of all it takes time. Keep coming back jow and stick to not drinking. Do what you can today so that tomorrow you are happy when looking back on today.
hi jow....glad you posted......get that stuff out in the open...
Its ok to feel like a drink sometimes in early recovery jow..
It what we did for a long time........it dont go away over night....
But in my experience "the thirst" gets less and less powerful......
Have you tried some sweet fizzy pop?........worked quite well for me.
AND try to remember to "play the fantasy tape to the end".......forget the begining.
You know.....the bit with the nice bar maid........cheap booze ...everyone laughing.......
BUT the end of the tapes got the .........jail cell or waking up a strange town..
or...dry retching......or sweating...or not sleeping....or no appetite....
The end of "the tape" is the reality........the begining is fantasy.
You can do this.......lots of people have including this old drunk........trucker

i have only 25 days, and 30+ years of drinking? i have quit on/off, but have no major sober time.
i am old, and this has been my life style, geez! i think IF i could learn to like myself.....sober, this would not be so hard? my physical appearance is ugly?
maybe my excuse to drink, tho i do need need an excuse? i guess i am just on the pity pot tonite, but i DO know i need help!
thanks all!
:praying
jowinbo, for me, being sober meant I had to "re-find" myself. I had to "re-connect" with my feelings, emotions, friends, loved ones, family members, hobbies, etc.....
For several years my life revolved around alcohol. From planning weeknights and weekends to make sure I was going to be able to get drunk, to missing out on many different events and or activities due to booze, I did everything with booze in mind. It is really different when now you can do everything without booze. Think of the freedom. You want to go to the movies, go. You want to catch a ball game, go. You want to read a good book, go. You want to lay on the couch and do nothing, do it. You can do whatever you want without something holding you back. I think of alcohol as a brand new baby. You have to change your life around it and there are certain things you miss out on. I think of sobriety as when your kids go off to college. You have so much freedom now, you dont know what to do with yourself.
Dont drink and know we are here for you.

Hey, is that what they call a fishface, lol?
25 days, from where I sit sounds like eternity. I'm on day two, and have had thoughts of getting a drink off and on all day. Hang in there! Tomorrow you will be better.
Hey, what's wrong with this. My in-home detox friend just told me that I'm out of dishsoap, so I told her just to stack them up, till I buy some. When I mentioned that the patio had plenty of room, she freaked. Huh? What's up with that?

My granddaughter snapped that of me last year as we were fueling up and heading out to see the Blue Man Group live for my birthday.
