5 things I want to accomplish by the end of the year.
5 things I want to accomplish by the end of the year.
I thought this might be a cool thread. I guess it is kinda like the dreams thread, but I thought this would be a place for us to list off some things we believe we can achieve by the end of the year, and keep coming here and updating and crossing off anything we actually accomplish.
Here goes:
1. I want to get off BP meds
2. I want to get off my anxiety/depression meds
3. I want to lose 40 lbs
4. I want to have 15K saved in the bank
5. I still want to be sober

Lets see...
1) I want to still be sober
2) I want to have a better understanding of myself
3) I want to build up the trust and respect I lost due to my drinking problem
4) I want to help another person or at least know I gave it my all to try and help
5) I want to get transportation and start working again

I want to get one year clean for the first time ever.
I want to get my One year clean tat. Also a first time thing. First tat.
I want to have money saved.
I want to be more involved with my fathers life.
And I want to have my surgery done.

hmmm...I would like to..
....have a direction either career wise or school
....have a serene replenishing spot to call home
....meet a few more friends
....transportation that is my own
.....to be practicing everyday the love and care that I have for myself that I long ago stopped paying attention to

What I want
1) the serenity to accept the things I cannot change
2) the courage to change the things I can
3) the wisdom to know the difference
4) to enjoy one moment at a time
5) to be able to accept hardships as the pathway to peace
I stole those, but they sound pretty good. I have lots more, but those would be pretty great

Hmm... I have never really had goals, like someone said, if you don;t have goals you are never dissapointed when you don't reach them, lol.
However, I think short term goals are good, can't think long term yet.
1. Holiday in America
2. get drivers licence back
3. remain happy
4. get job or be in some kind of skills training
5. lose weight
The pre-requisite for any of these things is remaining sober, of course.

In AA is is said to Live for Today. It is a very important statement meant for the alcoholic.
If it said 1 year at a time we would never make it IMHO.
I think it is very important not to get ahead of ourselves.

In life you have to set short term and long term goals. We all have to work towards something. Often we will find that things dont happen as quickly as we would like. But it is always nice to make resolutions at the beginning of the year even if we dont keep them...that will always gives us something to look forward too, new beginnings are great.....I'm leaving yesterday behind and looking forward to better tomorrows
Good luck to you all. I hope all your dreams/goals are fullfilled...I will check back at the end of the year just to see how many I have accomplished.....:ghug

That was my first thought too Hardwired, but reading through these posts amazed me. Everyone's goals are such good ones, and, I think, attainable one day at a time. Now if I said that in one year I wanted a new Mercedes, new house, etc., I would certainly be setting myself up for failure. But all these posts about wanting just to be a better person are wonderful. All we have to do to reach them is not drink today.
In recovery it is very important to live one day at a time. If we fail at being
sober than all the goals we set up for ourselves, that only could have been
gained by being sober are lost to. Further sending us in the hole, and
strengthening our disease, because our disease thrives on failure. So the less
to lose if there is a relapse the better.
Make any sense?
The saying "for today only" makes so much sense when you disect it.

I think you can live each hour, each day at a time, and still look forward to the things you will be able to implement in your life as the battle moves forward.
Living for the moment and getting thru each day sober is the work, the fight, the daily goal.
I think this thread is more about aspiration, hope, not necessarily the daily battle....but the essence of the war and how we look to fight it. What we look to bring out of ourselves as overall gains in our life when we gain strength from each battle won.
You can hope for tomorrow as you live for today eh?
