Smile meeting makers make it!

that is a direct quote from a fellow A.A. member sober more than 2o years.. he believes in keeping it simple and living in "just today" without people like him.. i'd most likely not be here anymore.. gotta run.. on my way to A.A.!!!

Meeting Makers go to meetings. Meetings are a part of the process, but not the process in and of itself. The steps in the Big Book is the program that will bring about a psychic change sufficient to recover from alcoholism. Some people go to AA and get sober by just going to meetings, fine by me. Many others go to meetings and think they are "in recovery" and working a program. I have seen too many people die behind this myth to remain silent.

Meetings are good, I am not knocking them, however, when we tell someone all they need to do is go to meetings and they'll be fine, we do them a great disservice that may actually kill them. The type of alcoholic the book refers to is beyond human aid, something more is needed. These people need the steps, many in AA don't. The trouble is when a guy who is sober on fellowship alone tries to sponsor a guy like me who needs a spiritual awakening.

Working the steps never killed anyone, not working them did and does.

Not only do meeting makers make it ...so do those that: attend treatment groups, transform through religious salvation, have a spiritual awaking, practice Buddhism, seek counseling, commit to a healthy life style, quit on their own...just to name a few ways people recover from a hopeless and dire condition that can be known as substance dependence, addiction, or alcoholism.

Many paths to a destination that's known as freedom from the bondage of addiction.

Thanks for sharing and carrying a simple message, 24. I love my daily meetings and I'm thankful for the support I receive from my homegroup, but I'm also grateful for all forms of recovery, as long as we discover something that works for us.

I feel the meetings help alot! When a meeting is over I can't wait till the next.
the hour meetings gives me time to remember why I'm there, and also to share my experiences and to listen to other experiences. AA is priceless and a miracle in itself. If there was no AA we could be dead and alot of others would be to.
Thank God For AA

I have found by my own experience it takes the meetings, and the steps for me to find my place in life.Nothing else worked.Today,my contented sobriety depends more on the steps than meetings.

My first sponsor helped me get sober by the big book.
He quit coming to meetings some yrs later.
Last June he drank again and almost died.He is now sober 3 weeks. He contributed his drinking to relieving pain since he got away from the program, service,God,and others like him.
I believe it.
We sat together in a Monday night meeting this week.It had been many yrs since that happened,it was great! It`s nice to have him back.

Ive been sober 4 months now and going to my first meeting tomorrow with a work colleague who goes, im going with a real open mind as i do need some guidance in basically learning a new life or at least getting some way to achieve this, i.e. the steps and working them, i am going because what i am doing is not enough and it is pretty obvious for me to see that at some point i will probably drink again unless i make the inner changes i need to...hope that makes sense!

24: I used to be the person against AA, Thought I don't need that stupid stuff.
Until I was not able to go longer than 2 days without drinking. Now I'm at day 13 because of AA. I swear by AA. I have been to 9 meetings and 2 big book studys. AA is truly a miracle and God driven.
I'm not feeling well but still going to the meeting tonight.

HWF: i'm not feeling well but, i'm still going to a meeting tonight.. i think that sounds a lot like "going to ANY length to stay sober" that IS how it is done! IMHO anyway.

Don't tell everyone how great meetings are
we are running out of chairs in my home group...

Our membership has tripled and we now have 20 meetings a week.
We bought more tables...and soon we will add more seats.
We are also painting ...adding an Al non meeting...and our new
Women's meeting is going super.

AA is alive and well in Dallas, Ga.
