?

What's with the people coming here lately asking for people in recovery to do surveys?

At least they're not trying to sell Nike shoes this time (or maybe they are....)

It happens from time to time.

It is most definitely against our rules, and I personally hate it.

If you ever see such a post, let me or another Mod know about it.

I..have no idea.

Maybe they are students as well as recovering persons..

and could use the statistics for class.

Hmmmm.

I suppose they will have to hop on the thread and answer, Bam.

Good question.

Usually happens every semester. Some teacher or professor assigns a term paper, and the 'student' gets the brainy idea to 'google search' and we get requests, rofl

SR Moderators are pretty quick to remove such requests, thank goodness.

Sorry to disagree folks but I have a degree in Psychology (minored in behavioral medicine), and if I needed to do a research paper on Alcoholism this is the first place I would look.

The stories on this board are real, heartfelt and are of significant interest for students and professors doing research on this subject to get a birdseye view of our world. The more this disease is studied, the more aware, educated and helpful the medical and thereapist world will be.

I am sure that many of you who went to college realize that for professors, teaching is only about 30% of their job. The rest is scholarly research, writing, and service in their field.

There are other ways of obtaining information for research papers, and I used other methods of research when I was in university.

I strongly disagree with people coming to our forums and seeking information from our members. We work very hard here to protect our members, some of whom are very vulnerable. Above all, we are concerned about the safety of our members and go to great lengths to ensure their privacy is protected.

This is our rule:

Please do not post casting calls for Radio or TV appearances. Please do not post asking for information for research, surveys, or school projects.

I would think that with anything on the internet. You never know who or what is on th eohter side of that username.
So to me when someone comes here asking such requests. I myself would not take their word alone on what their intentions are.
I like Anna's response. LOL.
You never know what a persons true intent is and to keep everyone here safe. I am 100% behind that policy.
If those people need to do a paper. If it were me. I would wan tto go face to face with actual people. There are meetings, rehabs, and other resources.
And to be fair. For the person doing the paper. It can go both ways. They dont know who we are either. We could come up with some pretty off the wall stories if we wanted to.

I agree with this statement...however, this is a place for recovery.

There are other avenues those folks can take that are more appropriate for dealing with these issues. Perhaps I am overly sensitive, but I don’t like being treated as a subject for study or having my very personal experiences used for a report (especially if I’m not being compensated for it). There is a time and a place for those things, and in my opinion, SR is not the place for it.

Why people would come here to do research for something I don't understand. There are many other websites that have information on such things without directly being involved with people. And being new to sobriety myself, I only want to deal with people who understand where I'm coming from rather than be someone's labrat for some paper. There are rules in place for a reason and I was taught growing up that they're not their to be broken. *shrugs* Then again, that's just my opinion.

I have been in open AA meetings where students were allowed to sit in ....

They introduced themselves as such, and were welcomed.

Thanks Anna for reposting the forum rules that clearly address this matter.

That cannot be argued with..plain and simple.

Sorry, folks. I could not thank any posts.

My "thank you" buttons are broken today...
