well- still trying...wanted to touch base

I touched base here a while back. and well dont really have anything to say except i want to stop drinking. I can drink 12+ (or more) and function (which is scary to me)- i know its killing me. and not doing a dam thing for me. so, i need to set a date- anyone been here? it takes me 6 to feel like I am a human being. thats ridiculous i know. the first day and the next few are what are scaring me....i work 50 hrs a week, and slam at night- usually around 8 or 9 on weekdays- then the weekends its morning to night. what a shame.
anyway- love to all

Hi,

Good to see you!

Yes, the first few days will be hard. But, you can do it.

Talk to your dr and you can make a decision to change your life.

Just keep trying, keep coming back to SR. (I am not an AA person, but for many here, it has made the difference- so maybe go to a meeting). If you fall, stand up and try again. We are here for you.

DW,

Good to see you back! I was worried about you. Why are you waiting to quit?

Love,

Thats fantastic you are going to stop drinking. The first few days are difficult, especially when you're bogged down with other stuff. For me, work diverts my attention from alcohol and helps me to stay straight. If I work too much, however, my defenses get weak. Good for you for reaching out! You can do it!

Have you talked to your doctor about an out patient detox plan? You probably will need a few days off but it's doable if you are motivated enough. Keep in mind you have a lot of support here and we are glad to have your company!

Love,

Lenina

Dub,

Maybe you could ask your doctor for a referral to an addiction specialist. Many doctors haven''t been trained in dealing with alcohol addiction. Don't worry about your doctor knowing friends or family of yours. S/he must abide by confidentially and won't blab.

It's worth looking into!

Love,

Lenina

Lenina- I actually have a plethora of addiction specialists around here, wonder why...actually have picked one but havent called them yet. you are a kind person- i think the plan is to plan 4 days off- but meet with the specialist day before my first day off or sometime before. then get to work. we'll see how it works out. thanks- D

Withdrawal is much less painful when treated by a doc. You are wise to plan some days off to deal with this. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

That's exactly why so many have success through AA. I'm not currently in the program, but it keeps people busy and through helping others you get outside of your own head. Just a thought. I know you said you don't believe in God, but there are others that are in the program that manage to get something out of it and aren't Christians. Hope you'll find some sort of group recovery that you can meet at especially on the weekends because that will probably be the hardest time.

Definitely see a Dr if you can. There is a sticky called "what to expect" that you should read too.
