I don't know when your last drink was, but usually detox is considered not necessary anymore if someone has not drank during the last 3-5 days.
However, in some cases, if you are receiving government assistance, an initial detox is required to get into long-term residential treatment programs.
I can only tell you what happened from my experience only. I know that some rules vary from state to state and facility to facility so it may be quite different for you.
Some centers give you medication to go to sleep and/or calm you down in order to reduce the risk of seizures. Some only do depending on the individual.
The centers I went to keep you on an average of 3-5 days, depending on the individual and how well they recover. I and the other patients were in their room sleeping, watching tv, eating most of the time. We weren't allowed to make phone calls.
A couple of times they let us walk around the unit but we were mostly too foggy to stay alert for any length of time. Eventually they eased off the medications and once we were back to normal we were allowed to leave and/or go on to a treatment center of our choosing. Good luck! Hope to see you around here and let us know how it goes.
