Things to do on the weekend instead of drinking...

I thought I'd start this thread for me and others who might not know what to do with themselves on the weekend. In my situation, I don't know if I'm fortunate or not, but I only have one friend here who is married (whom I rarely see and she's not a drinker anyway), so it's not like I have any people I need to be around who might be drinking. For others who have lives , it could be trickier. Of course, one must fill up the hours with something to replace the drinking, so I'll start with some ideas:

1. Go to a meeting
2. Go for a long walk
3. Go to a mall and walk around
4. Go see a movie
5. Clean the house
6. Paint something in the house
7. Get rid of stuff that's just cluttering the house
8. Walk the dogs (btw, my dogs seem to like me better in the past couple of days )

Ok, I am out of ideas. None of those ideas seem all that much fun to me Can someone else come up with ideas please? Oops, I forgot be on SR!!!!

Read, play guitar, go to meetings, talk with other people, enjoy recovery.

I have no special plans, but just waking up feeling good is enough to satisfy me!

I start my weekend meetings at 6:00 tonight, and I'll take in at least two more over the weekend. I've got custody of my kids and my fiance will spend the weekend with us, we're going to see Inkheart tomorrow, on Sunday we're playing paintball in the morning. The rest of our time will be spent watching DVD's, playing basketball, working on hobbies, and just enjoying our time together. Can't wait!

Good post Katie!
I texted hubby & said we are going to pick up a couple movies. Its going to be the not drinking during it that will be hard. I really should just go pour out my bottles (ok honestly I have 1 in the garage too)

Then if I have no way to get more I will have to drink just pop!

Oh, I really like this. I have a couple of hundred cookbooks and have been so consumed with drinking I'd lost all interest in cooking. I'd like to make something Thai or maybe some Chinese again, which I haven't done since a year ago on Christmas and it turned out pretty good. There is so much to do I guess other than drink.

Excellent Idea!!! Go for it. I know I could not have the stuff in my house without thinking it would be okay to just have "one or two." More like one or two bottles. Then of course I'd have to go to the store for more.

I might read a book, it's been a while since I've read a book and I have a few I've been wanting to read.

I also haven't dusted off my game system in some time, I may break that out and fool around with it for awhile.

There's also a few movies I've been wanting to see....Grand Torino, Slumdog Millionaire, the Wrestler...anyone here see any of these????

I'm also exercising a lot everyday and plan on continuing to do so...it makes me feel a lot less anxious throughout the rest of the day and I've already dropped a few pounds.

I have been inspired by another thread. I am going to watch Seinfeld and I love Lucy reruns and maybe the second season of Dexter. Those eggs benedict sound real good too. maybe I will go downstairs for some of that.

I'm gonna have to resurrect the Foodies Anonymous thread if this keeps up!

I hate to bring this up, but it's 2009 now... so if all else fails, start working on your 2008 taxes...

My kids have had the same experience with my drinking, TWD. I'm happy to know we can be the parents that every child deserves to have. Boy do I miss them when it's not my custody time!

Katie: Thanks for starting this thread its really good.

Unfortunately im working the whole weekend so thats a distraction.
Felly: Wow.100.... not sure on no16 tho. can we just pick any old person to go visiting or do we have to know them?

I hope you dont mind me writing some of these things down. cna put it on my wall as distractions. See how long it takes to tick them off.
When my cravings are bad. my brain cant make things up, at least now i have something to work off. Thanks

Here is a good one that would take my whole weekend plus some. Travel to Washington for Eggs Benny but the eggs have to be poached or I ain't doing it.

It is a no kid weekend for hubby and I.
We will sleep in (me longer than him),
drink an enormous cup of coffee or two.
Get some household chores done,
go to a barbell weight lifting class,
go to the movies and see Gran Torino.
Lounge around the house.
