Who should decides my recovery time really??

I am new to this sight and am looking for some light. Even if its a stranger holding a bic lighter at the end of a tunnel. My question is this; who had the right to tell me how long I should spend in a drug rehability based on my past drug history? Should'nt it be a Doctor and shouldnt I have the right as well? Any thoughts?? Please don't hold back I am looking for some insight I need to make some new friends and the only way I know how is to reach out.

Thank You.

Welcome, Mrs Capricorn 2 U. I think a doctor and an individual should both have a significant amount of input into not only the length, but also the nature of any chemical dependency treatment being considered.

I agree it should be between your dr and you to make a decision.

Welcome Mrs C!

All patients have rights.

But I really listened to what my doctors had to say..they carefully considered all

of my past history..and carefully observed my progress. I came to trust my

primary physician, and frankly..did not want to leave.

My best to you, and good luck!

P.S.

If you are asking if outsiders should make decisions.. Nope!

Are you considering rehab because you want to or because you have to?

I think it's entirely up to you. If you really want to quit you won't have to spend a second in any sort of a rehab.

I think there may be different circumstances in different situations.
If you are standing in front of a judge,he has the right if he chooses.
If you are living at home with mom and dad,and want to continue to live there, and they say you need to do it,they have some say so.
if you just want help for yourself, then you decide based on the consolers advice or Dr`s advice.

I believe most should be left to the professionals.
I would like a little say in it. But if it were entirely up to me. I wouldnt go nearly as long as I probably should.
Everyone is different. And based on what you say when they ask you all those questions.
Probably has alot to do with how long is reccomended.

Welcome to the site.

Kind of hard to answer your question without a little more info.

Offhand I'd say the doctor.

Your opinion on your problem might be somewhat invalid 'cuz you're the patient? Sometimes we don't make the best analysts for our own problems. For instance... I checked into rehab 'for the weekend' to fix my problems. (I checked out 42 days later, lol.)

Keep coming back!

The doctor and yourself would and should be the best people to determine this. The judicial system really runs drug users through the process like an assembly line, and, imo, it would be better if they got out of the process altogether.

I have to disagree there.
My father was mandated over 20 yrs ago to rehab and AA and hasnt touched alcohol since.

Doesnt always work. But sometimes people need that push.
You never know if making someone will do the trick. It may be the time that saves their life.

Thank you all for your replies. This was truly a wonderful way to get feed back from those who are like me addicts. I look forward to getting on with my sobriety and to have what most people already have aquired in there life, a priceless life and the ability to live life on life's terms clean and sober.

God Bless you all.
