Hi

Just to introduce myself
I’m a 30yo with a large binge drinking habit that I’ve had since i was around 19.
I've suffered from major depressive disorder since being 21 and milder depression since young childhood.
So I'm well aware of my reasons for drinking.. Which I hope will help me with giving up.
I've also been well into recovery with my depression for around 18 months and even of prescription meds for a year as I've been successfully treating myself with amino acids..
Now that my depression is pretty much cured I have a strong desire to give up drinking and get my health and life in order.. Plus going through around 150 pints since Christmas eve is freaking me out..
I've used the support forums and the internet in general to get to grips with my depression... so I have great confidence in it helping with my drinking..
I look forward to networking with you all.. It seems like a really good and supportive community...
I also hope to offer people some help too... I’ve found my experience with depression has made me really good at providing emotional support..

Welcome to SR. You have found a great place. And I can relate to both the binge drinking and the depression, having been there done that on both. Do you have a plan to stop drinking? Have you stopped drinking?

well my plan is to stop when i go back to work after christmas holliday.. so monday
but im resisting the eurge tonight.. and hopefuly tomorrow..

ive spent most of the day reading and plan on doing a lot more i think empowering my self with knowlege will be the best way to start...
hopefully some morral support on here will help..

also planning to start weight training after next payday.. hopeing that will help me aviod it and give and a good way to talk my self out of it cause booze is very bad for weight training aparently...

and i'm hoping now my mental health is doing so well.. ill have less call for it and have much better impulse regulation..

if all else fails i get put back on antabuse...

i took it for 6 months a couple of years back.. but then got my anti deppressants chaged and fell off the wagon during the agustment period..

cheers guys

Wow, you sound similar to me. i had mild depression while i was young and then depression again in the last few years. I also used and still use amino acids, and other vitamin supplements to help me with that. Looks like you're doing well now, good for you!

Well we are all here for ya huggybear! Definitely try the weight training. I have really kicked up the exercise since I stopped drinking. It makes you feel so good and keeps you busy!
