Off topic - girls and boys and women and men
* pouts *
If you _really_ wanna get technical, we do have a handful of young ladies who are under 18. So can we all agree on the term "alanoids"? Or how about "peeps"?

"Other folks" works for me. I posted my response because the term "girl" refers to females who are young, pre-adolescent, immature, or naive. When used to refer to adult women, the term "girls" is offensive.
...........eeeeeeeee, to some women, depending on who's saying it and how.
From Andrew, I find it funny, because a) he doesn't mean it that way, and b) he knows we can totally kick his ***
Mike, is the term "alanoids" common? It makes me feel a little bit like Gort from The Day the Earth Stood Still. But hey, if it's in the patois......

My apologies to DaisyChild, as we have completely derailed your original question. Please consider our digressions and wandering chatter as evidence that we do recover and have lives that are happy, joyful and free
As far as I know, only here in Vegas. On the web I've heard "ala-peeps" quite a bit. With all due respect to the ladies, some of the ala-teens 'round here use "ala-chicks" and "ala-dudes". I think it all started a few years ago when one of the AA circuit speakers out of Los Angeles made mention of his entire family being in recovery as in his wife to al-anon, the older kids to ala-teen, the younger ones to ala-tot, and even ala-cat and ala-dog.

Even if it were uttered by a close friend, even if that friend didn't mean it that way due to lack of education or he/she thought it was a joke, it's still not OK with me and it's up to me to ask to be treated respectfully.
If I allow others to disrespect me--knowingly or unknowingly--I give my self respect away.

And just to use my new terminology tonight, here are the "Ala-Dogs" at rest
(Mr. GL thinks he looks like a space alien...does he?)
Thanks, Mike!

I'm just speechless
I really am
No one was referring to you, about you, no animals were harmed in the making of that thread, you can't offer anything helpful to the OP, but just be offended by the term "girls" when all it was to refer to "not boys", and derail and hijack the entire thread to make it all "about you"
I find this tedious in the extreme, I really do
I just can't think of anything to say that's helpful, I just can't...
Good luck FD and God Bless you

There was a time when I wouldn't have found it offensive, either. But now that I'm not constantly being berated by an alcoholic and my self esteem has grown, I see things differently. Use of the word, "girls," in reference to adult women is generally an attempt to keep women in their place.
Speaking as a regular plain ol' poster......you were offended, and you were apologized to -- and yet this thread keeps going, because you feel you must rebut everyone who was not offended.
It is not enough that you made your feelings clear? I understood perfectly -- there are many who share your viewpoint. But don't others get to express theirs too?
Perhaps I should choose to be offended because you have insinuated that, because I'm not offended, that means I don't have self-esteem? Oh, wait, you didn't mean it that way so it's okay?

Maybe we should get back to what SR is all about....sharing our experience, strength and hope. Take what we need and leave the rest. We are supposed to welcome newcomers, not scare them off with bickering....just my opinon.
