Unhappy Hi

Today is my first day of being sober in a long time. No its not a New Years resolution, I'm tired of shakes, blackouts and not being me. My poison is vodka. Any support is so appreciated.
Peace and Love to you all.

Welcome Kat to a great place for support and friendship. Come here often to post your fears and questions, and read about our struggles. Have you considered going to AA meetings? I found them a great help when I was starting out. There are other recovery programs out there too. Read the 'stickies' at the top of the forums for lots of info.

Welcome!

Forgot to say, medical supervision can be a good idea to get you safely thru detox. Your doctor can help you be safe and more comfortable while you withdraw from your poison. For more info on withdrawal read the sticky at the top of the Alcoholism forum titled "quitting, what to expect, what we did".

Welcome, kat!

I'm so glad that you're here. Yes, being so brutally tired from the effects of our drinking brings most of us here to recovery.

It's the beginning of a very worthwhile journey.

Please join us and read around the forum. There's so much to learn here and the support is amazing.

Best wishes, and Happy New Year.

Hi Kat2009

Welcome this forum. Anything that could change how I felt was my poison... but vodka was a frequent liquid choice...

Keep coming back and post often, especially now.

Do you have people to help you if you need it? Someone to call? If you are a black out drinker and get shakes, be sure you can get medical attention if you need it for alcohol withdrawal symptoms

Mark

Welcome to the SR family!

I found this thread helpful to me when I wanted to get sober:
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...influence.html

I also went through withdrawals from vodka two years ago this month. It took another 18 months to give up all alcohol. I don't recommend that plan!

Make yourself at home.

welcome! im happy for you that you were able to realize that you have a problem and are able to fix it for the better just like all of us here.

my poison was whisky, but i fortunately now i know enough now to leave poison where poison belongs, outside of my body!

Hi Kat,

Although I'd drink pretty much anything, vodka was my private stash and preferred booze of choice. I too got sick of the blackouts feeling like I didn't know myself anymore. I'm now on my 93rd day sober, so it CAN be done. Please let me know if I can help you in any way.

Glad you found us.

Thanks to all.

Okay this is day 2 and it will be the first Friday in many moons that I won't drink. And guess what? I'm ok with that! I do have alot of support at home and everybody understood that the first day for me would be really hard, I'm still a little shakey but much better than yesterday. And its going to get better and better!
Thanks so much for the support! It really helps to know I'm not the only one who has gone through this. Peace and Love.
