withdrawal question..need some replies

Hey All- Anyone evr experience these symptoms when coming off hard alcohol abuse:
1. Massive gastro-intestinal stuff ( severe nausea, heartburn, constant belching, that sort of thing)
2. absolute lack of appetite
3. bad insomnia
4. severe anxiety- trouble thinking-weird thoughts/mind images
5. night sweats, chilly then hot then chilly
6. general malaise, aches
7. panic like attacks..fear of impending doom

More importantly...do they stop? Its been between 1 and 2 days since last drink. How long did this stuff last for you? I'm starting to freak myself out a little. Thanks

Ok...I'm on Day 4...

1. Massive gastro-intestinal stuff (severe nausea, heartburn, constant belching, that sort of thing)

I had bad lower gastro - stomach cramps - gas...GONE NOW.

2. absolute lack of appetite

Not bad first day (hungover), but not real hungry...still not real hungry...

3. bad insomnia

Yes....mostly trouble falling asleep...haven't been sober to sleep in WHILE...

4. severe anxiety- trouble thinking-weird thoughts/mind images

Some...mostly gone now.

5. night sweats, chilly then hot then chilly

First and second night...yes...gone for now. Keeping the room COLD.

6. general malaise, aches

A little yes...took Ibuprofen and felt better. Felt great this AM.

7. panic like attacks..fear of impending doom

Yes...went along with anxiety...feel much better today. First two/three days was BAD. Short of breath...had to talk self down.

HANG IN THERE...today I felt like I turned a corner...hopefully it lasts and lasts!!

Rob, If I had the symptoms you are describing I would see a Doc.

Withdrawal from alcohol is nothing to mess around with...

Better to be safe..

Anyone evr experience these symptoms when coming off hard alcohol abuse:
1. Massive gastro-intestinal stuff ( severe nausea, heartburn, constant belching, that sort of thing) Nope. Didn't have that problem.
2. absolute lack of appetite Nope. Pigged out on sugary foods.
3. bad insomnia Oh yeah. Didn't sleep for over a week.
4. severe anxiety- trouble thinking-weird thoughts/mind images Definitely. Suicidal ideations.5. night sweats, chilly then hot then chilly Yes.6. general malaise, aches No.
7. panic like attacks..fear of impending doom Yes. AA and the 12 Steps took care of that.

Rob, as Hope mentioned, please see a doctor for these issues. I required medication for my anxiety. When I refused to take it I felt suicidal. Detoxing can be very dangerous, please handle it wisely and seek help.

I agree Rob - a doctor sounds like a great idea - then rehab or AA.

I have had all those, you should see a Doctor but I didn't (I am stupid), it took me a week to get over it.

hey man, i can tell you from personal experience, those symptoms are troubling and you should either get to a detox center or a doctor as soon as possible.

withdrawal from alcohol and from benzodiazepines are the two drugs that can kill you from stopping use without tapering or proper medical attention.

i suffered the DT's for 6 days after going from constant use to 0 upon arrest. its very very dangerous, and most likely if you checked into a rehab/detox clinic, you would be helped in every aspect of recovery. as mentioned, alcohol withdrawal and detox is nothing to mess around with, and by no means should you expect that you can overcome this on your own.

i really think you should seek medical help, your already fighiting the hardest part of the battle which is knowing you have to stop, and stopping. now let the professionals help you get through the physical side of it.

Rob...I remember you...you're not an easy person to forget. The user name is very distictive, too. So, what is really going on?

About six months ago, you had just come back from "long-term" treatment, and seemed to be doing so well. I'm really sorry to see that you've relapsed. But, this isn't the first experience you've had with withdrawal symptoms:

Hey- I'm 41..been drinking upwards of 2 pints ( or more) of hard liquor a day for 22years...been sober 10 days...here's what I experienced
1. tremendous depresion and anxiety/paranoia/delusions
2. overwhelming sadness
3. severe nausea/ gastric distress ( to use polite terms)
4. tactile hallucinations/ vague visual abnormalities
5. no appetite whatsoever
6. severe insomnia
7. vomiting
8.Muscle aches/ joint pains
9. headache/ mental fog
10. shortness of breath/ chest pains
11. extremely bad dreams/ violent nightmares
12. extreme lethargy/ tiredness
13. heartburn/ acid reflux
14. anxiety
basically, I felt like I was going to die for the first 3 days. It got better over time...physical stuff pretty much went away after 7-10 days...the mental anguish lingers longer...as they say. Good Luck....see a doctor if you need to.
This was your very own post back on December 4, 2007...exactly a year ago today. Unless there is something else to be concerned about besides the alcohol withdrawal, the symptoms you described seem to be absolutely identical.

PLEASE, I beg of you...take your own advice, Rob...see a doctor! Keep posting here daily, but see a doctor! It worked for you before...it can again.

I hope nobody thought I was coming down hard on you, Rob...that definitely wasn't my intention.

Go back and read your posts...it's one of the reasons it's suggested that we keep daily journals...especially in early sobriety. It's amazing how much we need to be reminded...have the memory jogged back on track.

"He who forgets to remember is doomed to repeat."

Good luck to you, Rob! Keep the memory green!
