Thanks for the nice welcome.
I've been sober now since 6-23-08.
It took awhile to figure out a date, because things
were pretty out of hand at the time. If you're here, I'm sure you know what I mean.
I volunteered to be detoxed, cause I knew the
hopelessness of my situation.
I had gone through detox before, for painkillers and alcohol, but it was alcohol that was kicking my ass this time.
After that I got some rehab, cause detoxing alone was not enough before.
I had co-workers and family supporting me. So I insisted I want all the help I can get.The insurance, I pay for, covers it, so the hell with what everyone
else thinks, you know?
I've been keeping myself busy with work and my motorcycle hobby, but
the holiday has really shown me, I'm still only recovering.
Living sober is still new to me. That's why I'm posting here.
I belong to a motorcycle forum, but I wouldn't discuss this there.
Thanks again.

Hey fatrat, there is a forum on SR for bikers in recovery.

Me too on the alcohol and painkillers. They seem to kick my ass about the same, got to say. Over two months off booze and two weeks of pills!

Hang in there.
You know I'm here for the same reasons.
I have noticed the biker forum.
Maybe I can meet some sober people that enjoy to ride.
Thanks

Hi FatRat & welcome!

Me too, at least as far back as I can remember. So far in my 8 days of sobriety I have had 1 birthday party to attend and Thanksgiving. My birthday is on Monday, celebrating with friends, and then a big party of the 6th. I'm being tested hugely right now!!! Checking into this forum is very helpful when I'm about to pull my hair out and seem to be losing control of the flood of emotions I battle!

I'm praying for all of us as it's certainly a rough time to get clean & sober, but isn't anytime rough?

I have told myself over the past 3 years that if I "get sober", I will learn how to ride and get a bike (I'm 5'3 and female) and everyone has laughed at that idea. Who knows, it could happen as it's really a dream for me! :bounce

Good luck & keep posting!

Hi FatRat - it's terrific that you've joined us, & that you've made it this far. It is hard to learn to get through the holidays without our friend and companion. I felt so strange on T-Day, but now I don't have to deal with the fallout that getting drunk would have meant. It's great to be free.

WELCOME TO SR!!

Glad you decided to join this forum. It was my first Thanksgiving sober in many years too. Wasn't easy, but not as bad as I thought either.
