It's not always what I think...

Last night I went to a small/intimate AA mtg with a friend. Feeling humiliated, anxious & defeated I thought to myself there is no way I'm going to share or admit that I only have 4 days sober again, period! Within minutes of making up my mind, I was sharing -- crying -- talking about the shame & how I should know better! After getting it out, a guy with 16 years sobriety started tearing up and shared that his life has been going to hell with being a dry drunk and thanked me for possibly putting him back on track. I was shocked!

Then another guy who just got out of prison in Vegas and moved back to Tahoe said he wasn't planning on attending the meeting cuz of whatever, and said he heard just what he needed to after hearing me. Thanked me and I knew it was sincere.

I got hugs, smiles & understanding! Cuz of that, I could give it back, humbly instead of humiliated. Wow!

I know it may not always be like this, but it kept me sober last night and I'm grateful -- as much as I can be -- today!

I'll be in touch later.

Nicki That's wonderful!!!

I made it to a meeting this morning here in Nola ( 1st one here at home, after a bunch in So Cal near my Mom's) I have yet to share, I have a " thing" about speaking in front of a bunch of people. One more hurdle.

I'm proud of you!!

I have a hard time speaking in front of a lot of people too. If it weren't but 5 of us, I probably wouldn't have. Maybe you could find a small mtg to start with??? It's helping me.

Take care and Happy Thanksgiving!
