New Here. Need to Sober Up
New Here. Need to Sober Up
Introducing myself. Im 23 years old and I just got back from Iraq last week and I realized I have a problem with drinking. Im tired of waking up the next day and not knowing what I did and looking like a fool. Ive also done alot of stupid things like cheating on my girl friend and its all because of alcohol. Alcoholism runs in my family and I am not going to go down that road. This is the first thing Ive done to seek help. Good to know Im not alone. This is day one...
Looking forward to this. This last week was an eye opener for me mainly because Ive blacked out 7 nights in a row and done some pretty stupid stuff. And I survived Iraq and I now dont want to be a slave to a substance anymore.
Welcome Pink Panther. Are you going to AA or any other program? SR is a great place for support but I found the face to face aspect of AA to be indispensable.
Are you still in the military? Thanks for your service.

I would suggest a visit with your doctor. Many sailors and soldiers are coming back with PTSD and treating it with substances/alcohol.
Thank you so much for your service. You are entitled to treatment for PTSD.

I have to look up some local meetings. I still in the military too and Im going to the VA tomorrow to have some things checked out. I feel great now that Im finally doing this.

Hi Pink Panther & Welcome!
I too was a black out drinker and cheated on my husband (not proud of either) so when I read your post I could totally relate to you. Please check out some local AA meetings, the first one was a little intimidating to enter but once I was there and started hearing people share their stories I realized I was right where I needed to be. I remember one of the older gentleman at that meeting telling me after the meeting that I was not unique, which quite frankly floored me, all this time I thought I was...lol
You are right where you need to be and we are glad you are here with us! I have always found that no matter what I am feeling at a particular time in my journey there is always someone that has gone through it before me and willing to help. So just know that you are not alone!
Thank you for posting and for your service to our country...you are truly brave on both accounts! KEEP COMING BACK!
In Love & Peace,
Lisa

Hi PinkPanther - I want to say thank you for putting your life on the line for us, too. As Carol said, the sooner, the easier. I wish I'd been wise enough to see what I was doing to myself when I was your age. Such a needless waste of precious time. SR has helped save my life, and people like you, who tell their story. Welcome to your new life.

Hi PP,
Glad you are here. I wish there was some way I could express in this post how good you will feel with your new life. I have 44 days today and it is the best decision I have ever made.
AA meetings will help tremendously and you will find fellowship and cameraderie there. Best of luck, thanks for your service, and I am glad you are here!
