Nursing profession with a felony?
Nursing profession with a felony?
I have a question. I have done many years as a home health nurse. I really enjoyed it. I got a felony in 2005 for possession of meth and in 2007 a felony for Driving While Revoked. With those felony's on my record I find it very hard to find a job. I have realy wanted to go back to nursing but have heard that you cant work in the nursing field with a felony. Is that true? Is there anyone else that works as a nurse or going to school to be a nurse with a drug felony?

It depends on your state. I have a nursing license but screwed it up with my addiction and have to apply for reinstatement. I know that when I went to school, GA forbid nurses to have felonies and maintain their licenses. That has all changed.
Most boards of nursing have websites and you can get a lot of info from that. If not, just call and ask them. I have to apply for reinstatement as an "impaired nurse" and go through an intense probation period of 4 years, and my license will always have a "mark" on it.
I also know that with MY nursing probation, home health is forbidden...you have to be under direct supervision.
I'm about to start jumping through the hoops to get my license back....want to join me?
Hugs and prayers!

There is a recovery forum over at Nursing
They might be able to help you with the steps to do this. There are all kinds of different nurses over there, including people who have worked in programs to help nurses get their licences back.
Good luck! From what I have read it is worth it.
