Question TOPIC: You're Seen In A Police Car. What Would People Think You Were Picked Up For?

Hi Im Sharon And Im An Alcoholic.

By the Grace of my HP and people
like you here in SR, I havent found
it necessary to pick up a drink of
alcohol since 8-11-90.

For that and you I am truely grateful.

Ok....Here is something to think about......

If a friend saw you sitting in the back
of a police car, what do you think they
would think you were picked up for?

How do you appear to ur friend?

When the police came to my house
on Aug. 10th 1990 after a family
intervention took place.....I was
led to the back seat of a police car.

A fence separated me from them.
There were no handles on the doors
in the back....and i felt like a criminal
hauled away.....so hurt....so pissed...
so ashamed.....

Never in my wildest dreams would
i have thought of ever riding in the
back seat of a police car until then.

I wasnt a criminal and wouldnt or couldnt
hurt a soul..........hmmmmmm

Except myself......

I dont come across as a bad person....
so people cant fathom me sitting in
the back of a police car.....

How about u?

What would you be picked up for?

You know you...that's all that matters. Probably by now things have already passed and no one is even talking about it anymore....right?

In the old days I'd have to say drugs and/or some kind of violence.

Sober and in the back of a police car?
...umm, my first response is shoplifting.
I don't know why as I have never shoplifted sober,
but since it is my first response I'll go with it.

:atv

Great topic too!

Oh of course....the past for me is long gone
for sure.....no regrets as far as the events
that led me into recovery.....A blessing by
all means.....

A co-worker of mine was goofing off today
as she approached me with this question....

If I saw her in the back of a police car, and
knowing the person she is, what would i think
she was picked up for.....

And i told her after contenplating the question......

violence.....and we laughed.....

I first told her it couldnt have been for
drunkeness ...maybe stealing.....then
na.......

She did share about her and boyfriend
having a squabble resently and how she
let him have it.....i think he got scared
of her after that.....

Then i remember her telling about that and
i told her maybe she'd be picked up on
violence....and we laughed.....

She is a good person but may have a
temper......

Then i began to think about my ordeal
with family intervention and being picked
up by the police.....

No one would ever suspect little ol me
as someone being hauled away in a police
car because of alcohol....

Boy did i have people fooled.

They would think that someone hurt my dog and I shot them. I guess that's my first response, so I'm sticking with that, too!!

Smacking my smart-mouthed 16-year old son right in his smart mouth!!! Sometimes my hand itches to smack him after some of the things that come out of him. Of course I'd have to jump up in the air to reach him now.

ride in a police car? How about an EMS vehicle?

I did that one too when i hit the concret culvert
sitting on top the ground in Feb. 1990.

I dont recall the ride because i was so messed

Never been in a police car Sharon, but I was arrested for shoplifting many years ago so I guess that's what I would've had a ride in one for.

I have had an ambulance ride. One month sober I took a ride to a mental hospital for the weekend. Thankfully God and AA stepped in and led me to where I am today. Now that ride doesn't seem so bad after all!

They would think I shoved my husband or hit him with something.

From past experience in calls of domestic abuse, they call it he said, she said and take both to jail.........even when it should be obvious that is was self-defense.

I did have a PTSD flashback in the past year and shoved my husband. And yes, I went to jail. So did he, but I can't remember why, that's PTSD, but he was prescribed a bad med and I am sure whatever he did was mild, but I filled out a complaint.

But yep, that would be the general consensus.

Maybe if one of my kids was hurt and they were taking me to the hospital. But the shooting-someone-for-hurting-my-dog thing is a definite possibility!

Wow! Thought provoking post.

I like the messed with my dog answer!

I'd like to think I would only be in the backseat of a police car because I went Rambo on someone that messed with one of my kids! First Blood!

Reality, people would think I was drunk and rowdy. I was not always a sweet polite drunk.
I'm really thankful for my sobriety!

Truthfully, they would think I finally lost it on an oblivious person (read: unaware cell phone talking driver almost causes an accident, etc) who happened to get in my way. This is actually more likely sober than drunk.

:wtf2

Sharon!

I really thought this was a joke at first!

I think I (have) told on here some details about my story..and in AA

rooms early on until sponsor grabbed me by the ruff of the neck

*Lol* and reminded me it was important to tell one other person

all of my life story...and...

"our stories disclose in a general way what we were like, what happened,

and what we are like like now.."

So..a safe thing for me to say?

"Disturbing the peace!"

I was in for that once...

Sheeeesh.. over a dumb guy..

Good grief.

I have been in the back of police cars since I was a kid.
Funny..not until I was 20 something did I know the bottom of the seat pulled out.
So dont try to hide things you dont want to get caught with in the seats of cop cars.
Most people would think..drugs or fighting.
Which most of them were.

Now however since I havent been in the back of one in almost 6 years..Knock on wood.
I am sure my nosey neighbors would have a field day.

When I was taken out in an ambulance last year. For my attempt. One neighbor even had the balls to walk right up into my yard and ask my grams what happened. After walking back and forth in front of our house a few times. Talk about hard up for gossip.
This lady is the neighborhood busy body ..didnt even call my grams by the correct name and is interested in nothing more than being all in peoples business.
I have no tolerance for nosey people.
So theres no telling what anyone would think now.
I say let em tyhink what they want.
I like keepin em guessin anyway. Especially the ones who cant keep their attention on themselves.

Someone would have had to have messed with my kids.

I had the police at my house last night. I had to let me dog out to go potty before I put her to bed (it was 7deg F outside) and someone called 911 (and wasted resources I might add..). She was already inside by the time he showed up. She was already warm and comfy but got white fur all over his dark blue uniform when she loved on him. (she's an Alaskan Husky).
