Unhappy OT: fLASHES BACK!

hot flashes have returned with a vengeance after being gone for a year and a half
thought I was free and clear, and they were long gone....
went through perimenopause early(45), years ago (worst than menopause, I'm thinking), and then menopausal for many years after...I turn 60 next month...
I can only think that in the midst of all that.... went through life changing seriously stressful period, and now that my life has settled down now to a blessed place of some serenity, my hormones, once interrupted, have now resumed their normal progression...thoughts on your experiences, anyone?
now where did I put that fan...

I haven't gotten to the hot flashes yet, but definitely have had the mood swings and really bad PMS symptoms, so I figure I'm pre-menopausal (I just turned 47). I've been taking OTC Estroven extra strength and it helps a lot with the moodiness..let's hope it works on hot flashes.

Anvil is the one who told me about it....she says it helps a bit to keep her from wanting to crawl in the freezer

Hugs and prayers!

Amy

thanks for the chuckle, Amy, the visual of anvil climbing in the freezer is a hoot!

hmm, I have chosen to go through all of this au natural, and menopause was a cake walk compared to perimenopause...gonna see how this goes...maybe if it gets real stupid, I'll see about the Estoven

I guess I was lucky, very limited hot flashes, and never took any medication.

When I use to have hot flashes in the middle of the night, I would stick one foot out, and that always seemed to help.

I would make an GYN appt. and have them do a hormone level and see what's up.

Strange it started all up again after you were over and done.

Hugs, and cool-ness....

ha, I do the one foot thing too, and it DOES work

yes, Moose, exactly my point...why back?

yes, I have an appointment set up...hopefully, it is just a delayed reaction...

intuitively, I'm thinking my hormones were holding their collective breath over the last 2 years while I dug my self out of codie hell

I am relieved to learn that peri may be worse than the real thing because I would become homicidal. I've only had a few hot spells, but I can become irrational in the peri stage.
I took the Estravan for a spell too, then got lazy. Its herbal so I figured a safe bet.

The Estoven is herbal?...oh ,that settles it then, I am going straight to the health food store!
I, about, lost my mind during perimenopause....

You can get the Estroven at any drug store (at least around here). They have several different versions...night time, regular. I take the extra strength and have not noticed any BAD side effects, and it seems to be helping.

The only symptom that I have is the Hot Flashes. I consider myself pretty lucky as my mom was a raging lunatic during menopause. I hope you find something to help. I have just been waiting them out to see if they will eventually go away. Hugs, Marle

Hormone Replacement Therapy put me out of my misery. HRT has received some bad press, but the Canadian Cancer Society and my doctor have assured me that the risks are very low for my medical history and the pro's far outweigh the cons. Only your doctor can advise you if they are right for you, but for me they were a little gift from heaven.

I tried all the herbal stuff, and felt like I was microwaving from the inside out.

HRT is my friend

Hugs

I had my first hot flash while on a plane. I thought something was seriously wrong and wondered why noone else was panicking. Then I realized that amazing furnace heat was coming from IN me, not around me. Welcome to middle age.

Mine just started again too. Will be 60 next year. Mine are night sweats and if I could learn to sleep with my eyes open I think I could make it. Somehow there is this switch between closing my eyes and turning on the furnace. Some nights I think I could actually burst into flames. Never did have any mood swings though.

started flashing when I was 35, my last period was when I was 40 (the only good part of menopause) gained 100 lbs in 10 years, now at 50 I'm just used to all the hot spells. well i guess they've let up alittle but between menopause and being overweight, I'm hot all the time.

I'm still a hot babe, but now it comes in flashes!

I went through the same thing and managed around 8 months 'flash free' and guess what? They're baaaaaaack!

Well I was just at the Dr. lastweek, because of the mood swings, no monthly for over 4 months, the hots. He said I am in menapause. He gave me a water pill, said they help to flush out.

The worst time I am having with it is, the moods swings and crazies.

I told the Dr that what he has given me had better work quick, before he is reading about me in the Newspaper!

thank you everyone for your share and chuckles!!
Baxter and Freedom, learning that you had a long reprieve before the demon flashes came back is helpful to me...sounds like it just might be fairly common...just have to suck it up...
I will get levels checked though, just to be sure...

I went on HRT for about a year and gained weight so decided to give that up. I went with herbs and vitimins and things settled down and worked perfectly for me.....I was on black cohosh (eases menopausal symptons, moods swings))~red clover (heart disease osteoparsis) phyoestrogen~~& Vit. E~~~ I bought all of them at GNC and talked to the woman there They know so much about all the herbs and can help you out tremendously.. Good luck. HUgs, Bonnie
