Just starting again.
This is my 1st post so I hope I'm doing it right. I really want to quit drinking again, but my last attempts have not gone well...obviously. First time went to AA and cried through my first couple of meetings. It didn't really seem to help as I think the group wanted me to feel comfortable and didn't really explain the program and it seemed more like a confession meeting. The last meeting I went to there was a guy there struggling with sobriety, had received a dui and it seemed he was an emotional wreck.
Next I tried the group counseling which I attended all the meetings, but eventually just lied about not drinking and it failed.
I can't go to rehab for the 30 day program as I am self employed and provide most of the finacial support for the family.
Please any advice would be appreciated. I'm tired of being embarressed of myself, guilty of my actions and just disappointed that I'm incapable of controlling myself. I want this to be a success this time.

Hi and Welcome,
I'm glad you posted and that you want to change your life!
It's hard to stop drinking, but you can do it.
AA works for many people but there are other ways to stop drinking. One thing I found is that, besides stopping drinking, I had to make other changes in my life. SR is a great place to find support and for me it's a lifeline.

You're doing just fine with the website.
Newcomers is a good forum, with lots of activity, but you can post anywhere you like.
For me, getting rid of all the alcohol in the house helped. I still don't keep any alcohol in the house, so it's just something I don't think about.
I think balance is essential for me. I tend to have an addictive personality, so I try to work on myself physically, mentally and spiritually each day. Focus on yourself and your recovery and you'll get through this.

Sooo...
have you considered speaking honestly with your
doctor about your drinking patterns?
That might be wise before abruptly quitting.
I did not go to a treatment facility either
no insurance ..and I was self supporting.
I did and do use God and AA for my recovery.
However...as Anna mentioned....there are other programs.
Please let us know how we can assist you
