Always another chance for another chance
Hi, I just found this site today and it seems pretty positive so far. I quit drinking twice (through detox) and now have to do yet another round but I really want this time to work. I'm not one for AA meetings but having a support system seems like the way to go. Wish me luck.

So I went to detox Oct 24 and they put me on Campral after to help cravings. I have had a week and a half sober and hope to stay this way. This is my third attempt. Has anyone used Campral?

Binny Welcome to SR! Glad that you found us! Please check out our other forums and the stickies at the top of the forums- there is a lot of support here! Keep posting!
Always another chance for another chance
The number of alcoholics that recover from alcoholism is miniscule, the vast majority of us die from all kinds of wonderful things.
If we are lucky we are killed in an auto accident, drown or die from alcoholic poisoning..
If we are unlucky we have all kinds of things we die from slowly and painfully:
Cirrosis of the liver.
Pancreatic cancer.
Heart disease.
Kidney failure.
Mouth, throat, esophagus and larynx cancer!
The above is not an all inclusive list because alcohol damages every single organ in the human body.
The vast majority of people who die from alcoholism when thier cause of death is listed does not say "Alcoholism" to spare the families of them embarrasement.
Please do not take offense to the above, I could not become willing to do what ever it took to get and stay sober until I fully understood that my drinking was killing me. I used to tell myself all the time "Well if I do not stay stopped this time, I can stay stopped the next time! Basically I was not ready to stop and that was my way of justifying drinking again.
Binny congrats on staying sober a week and a half, what are you doing different this time to stay sober.

Thank you everyone for your support. These are still early days and the most difficult or perhaps its always difficult. I hope the meds help. I go to an addiction clinic and a therapist but there are NO AA meetings where I live so you guys are my support.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

You are guaranteed to stay sober, if you don't drink. No one can guarantee that you'll be able to quit drinking, over and over again. So, please, I beg of you, don't continue to "test the waters".
As an oldtimer in AA used to say, "If you are looking for sobriety, I pray that you find it. If you have found sobriety, I pray that you keep it."
